This book is great!,

I got this book because I was looking for some new lab ideas with my GT kids. When I got it I was amazed! Instead of just having some general lab suggestions like most books, "24 Lessons..." has everything you need except the equipment. The labs are good for all levels of student, from LD to GT classes, and I plan on using it extensively!

Good, solid activities for high school students,

I bought this book about a year ago and use about eighteen of the "lessons" with my students. I've found that my classes like the easygoing style of the labs, and I appreciate that the teacher resources in each chapter tell me everything from how messy my room is likely to get to the points that students are most likely to have problems with. The worksheets are really nothing revolutionary, but complement the activities well. The student handouts do a good job of getting the concepts across, though you may need to expand your explanation of each topic during your lectures. I'm not sure this book is really appropriate for AP classes, but these labs and activities work well with Chem 1 and Concepts Chemistry classes. These lessons don't exactly "rock the world" (that's a tall order for any resource book!) but they do make my planning a lot easier.

24 Lessons that were Mediocre,

Many of the worksheets are nearly identical to those found in the complementary material for instructors that accompanies textbooks (at least for "Chemistry: Connection to Our Changing World"). On the plus side, everything in the labs is nontoxic and readily available. However, many of the lessons are not experiments, but activities or worksheets. The worst part is that the review sheets and prelab discussions too often contain wrong infomation in an attempt to be breezy.
