Still one of the best!,

This review is from: 24 Songs / Songs From Emily Dickinson (Audio CD)
This is an old recording, mono only. The endings of some of the songs click-off as the somewhat hissy analog tape meets the leader tape separating the bands on the master reel. There were not many other recordings of Ive's songs when this first came out.
I love the music of Charles Ives and I own many CDs of his songs including some "complete songs of Charles Ives" collections. Ms. Boatwright's performance is very "classical" compared to more recent ones and she has really grown on me through the years of listening to this album. John Kirkpatrick, the pianist, was a dear friend of Mr. Ives and, for me, I can feel some of that direct connection to the master. Their version of "General William Booth Enters Into Heaven" remains my personal benchmark against which all other performers are measured.

I especially like this CD for the very fine collection of Ives songs. The piano work is done by Kirkpatrick; an original friend and interpreter of Ives.
