4.0 out of 5 stars Great B-24 footage!, May 31, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: B 24 at War/Series 1 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
From the cover: Famous Low Level and subsequent High Level raids on Ploesti Oil Refineries in Romania. Plus B-24's get back to home base after being severely damaged by flak and enemy fighters. Part I: The famous low level air raid of August 1, 1943. U.S. lost 54 bombers out of 162 in this surprise attack. 540 American fliers lost their lives. This exciting tape depicts Col. Leon Johnson, 44th Bomb Group, and Col. John "Killer" Kane, 98th Bomb Group, receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor. Part II: Subsequent high level raids from March through August of 1944 include many missions over this heavily defended important target. Ploesti was the Nazi's main source of oil and gasoline. These air strikes "brought Hitler to his knees"! Plus - B-24's GET BACK: Liberators, badly damaged in combat, return to home base, with holes in fuselage, wings and tail. Video opens with exciting battle scenes. Also includes a B-24 almost torn in half as well as a simulated water landing. It depicts the formidability of the "KING OF THE SKIES". B-24: THE FORGOTTEN BOMBER: Its true contributions and value in W.W.II, its lack of recognition revealed in poignant detail courtesy of PBS Cable Program "FOR VETERANS ONLY"! END
