4.0 out of 5 stars It really does taste like a cookie
Pros: It IS like eating a crumbly cookie, assuming the cookie was a 1.5 inch thick rectangular block. I didn't detect anything odd in the taste or aftertaste. Half a ration was relatively satisfying for a whole day as long as I didn't do anything strenuous (I'm a 170 lb. guy). 3.0 out of 5 stars "Emergency Food Ration"
Well, if this was the only food available ok but, these are not the best eating bars at all. They seem very dry and remind me of a "not quite bad but close" cookie dough. Usable but don't expect to live on them unless you have to. The reviews saying that these taste great either have a financial stake in selling these bars or their taste buds are dead.

Pros: It IS like eating a crumbly cookie, assuming the cookie was a 1.5 inch thick rectangular block. I didn't detect anything odd in the taste or aftertaste. Half a ration was relatively satisfying for a whole day as long as I didn't do anything strenuous (I'm a 170 lb. guy). The manufacturing and expiration dates were clearly stamped on the back below the nutritional info. The whole thing weighs a little over a pound.

Cons: Like a cookie, it can become stale if not eaten right away; i.e., still edible, but hard. You may need a utensil to cut off a block. I refrigerated my uneaten portion and it lasted for a whole weekend, but I do not know how long it will last without refrigeration. The ration is scored for 6 blocks, but IMO the scoring is for show only. The nutritional info was a little vague on the vitamins and minerals, whether it's for the whole ration or a single block. It doesn't really make you thirsty, but like eating cookies you may want to wash it down with something.

Conclusion: perfectly adequate as an emergency ration for maybe a week(?). Maybe not a good idea though if you're hypoglycemic or diabetic.

It tastes really bad but i don't care, looking at my history of eating anything that would keep me alive and healthy, but Ive ordered a lot of these and they are well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tastes OK, May 26, 2010

I opened one and shared with 4 other people , all of us agreed that they do actually taste pretty good , they are also very filling, my only gripe is that it is one big bar and would have to be eaten pretty quick before it went off , its a shame they cant individually wrap the portions , also the scoring which is supposed to allow you to break the bar isn't much help , you really need a big knife. having said that I will be buying more as a backup, if anyone knows of a bar that has similar nutritional content and has individually wrapped portions please let us all know
