4.0 out of 5 stars Maker NOT a "Pyramid" expert., December 4, 2000

One would think that a company who was going to produce a home version of a favorite, classic TV game show, would get someone who was an expert on the game to develop it before marketing. It is obvious to this longtime "Pyramid" fan that this was NOT the case. I'll start with the rules sheet. Although the description of how to play the preliminary game is pretty complete, the description of how to play the winner's circle round (which is more complicated than the preliminary game) is not. It states that "The player who sees the categories may give a list of things in the category." Period. Longtime fans know the rest, but what about a new player? They don't know that the clue-giver is not allowed to use his hands, is not allowed to give descriptive clues such as prepositional phrases, and not allowed to use part of the answer in their list of items.

My biggest complaint is that anyone who is a "Pyramid" watcher knows that the least difficult categories in the winner's circle round are on the bottom row, getting increasingly more difficult as they climb the pyramid. Here are a few examples of this game's $50 categories: "Innocent Things" (That category was generally either a $250 or $300 category); "Things that are clear" (easily a second tier category); "Things you clip" (another $300 category); In reverse, some of this games $300 categories include: "What a swan might say"; "Baby Things"; "Measures of time", all which belong on the lowest tier, probably as a $50 category. Most "What a ___ might say"-type categories were the $100 category. In some cases, there are more than one "What a ____ might say" category in a game. That would never have occurred on the show. Putting the difficult categories on the lower tier causes one of two things: Players don't get beyond the bottom tier, or the game is an anti-climax. The makers should have checked with some "Pyramid" experts to deveop this game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pyramid is a great game. This version not so much., August 9, 2000

"The $25,000 Pyramid," no matter the dollar value, is a great game. Created by Bob Stewart, the man who created "Password," "Pyramid" started out in the early '70s and has endured in one form or another ever since.

Kind of a rapid fire version of "Password." A team of two is given a catagory, and one gives clues to the other to get them to guess all of the terms in that catagory.

This home version isn't nearly as good as the several editions that Milton Bradley put out during the initial run of the show. Those can be found regularly on ... auctions. What you would pay for a well kept old version would still be less than this and is well worth the hunt. Endless has done this one on the cheap. Except the outer box, which again looks great, but masks the lack of quality inside.

For those who like the feel of traditional boxed home games this edition of "The 25,000 Pyramid" is a great addition to your collection. (Although it would be better if all cards were not revealed so players can alternate between giving & receiving.)
The Winner's Circle plays like on TV (not like the old Milton Bradley editions, which had a totally different Winner's Circle game.

This game is very low-tech...and very fun! It plays like Taboo (which I also like) but without the stress of the forbidden words or the pressure of the unlimited number of words you could "get."

The game is easy to assemble and easy to play. Great fun for two couples who have gone out to dinner and want to play a game over snacks and drinks.

We were very pleased and would buy again.

weather it is THE $10,000 PYRAMID,$25,000 PYRAMID or $100,000 PYRAMID- Any edition of PYRAMID is welcome! While it has its flaws- as us PYRAMID fans easily see- this game is a MUST for game show fans and all who love word games! (Last New Years Eve I had several party games out for guests. With all these games what did my guests choose: "PYRAMID" ....even my friend Kevin=new to the game show- scene got into the game!!) I would like to see some more game show computer CD rom games- A PYRAMID game would be GREAT! Until then, this boxed edition will do. And, unlike the old Milton Bradley edition, this edition's "Winner's Circle" plays like the TV show's. ....Now, I'm waiting for the NEXT TV "PYRAMID"!

I bought this as a gift for an avid Pyramid fan, and we were both shocked at how poor the quality was -- the main playing "board" (The Pyramid) which should be made to endure fair use is flimsy disposable cardboard and arrived torn! It would have been to expensive for them to laminate it or make it out of plastic?

I'm sure the game is fun -- It's Pyramid, after all... but for the rather high price, there's no excuse for the outrageously, insultingly, low quality of the game pieces.

When I told my friends about the Pyramid home game, we couldn't get together to play it fast enough. We were not disappointed. The game closely mirrors the television version. Although 2 of our players were not familiar with the TV version, they were able to understand the rules through both the written directions and by playing. At first, it was a bit discouraging; we only averaged about 3 or 4 answers correct out of 7, but as we continued with the rounds we got better and better. It really got our competitive juices flowing and we only stopped playing out of exhaustion. It combines brain power with time pressure more so than other trivia type games so it creates an excitement level that other games cannot match. We cannot wait to get together and play it again!!

$25,000 Pyramid Plays EXACTLY Like the Television Game Show That Ran from 1973 to 1988. The Same Bunch of Categories And Words and everything. The Only Thing That Could Be Better is Having Dick Clark Come To Your House Himself. Even The BOnus Round Plays Flawless, Which Surprised even me, A Pyramid Lover. It Is MOST DEFINETLY Worth Your Money. I Even Found A Way To Play it with TWO (2)players! Just be a receiver once and your friend be a Giver and let that Count as A team, Then You Be A Giver and Your Friend Be A receiver and Let That Be A Team. It Is Perfet! My Only Beef Though, is Lack Of Rounds You Can Play.Only 48. As I am Writing this it is August 26 2001. I Bought it on August 20 an am already through 25 Game Rounds. But it's Not Really That Big Of a Deal If You Pace yourself.

The game the $25,000 Pyramid arrived in perfect time. It was obviously an original, not a copy. It was only missing the hourglass timer, which is easily replaced. It brings back fond memories and will be used for years to come.
