Brilliant compilation of movie songs,
By
This review is from: 25 Movie Greats (Audio CD)
With the possible exception of Barbra Streisand, Doris was the most successful singer-actress of the twentieth century - and I'm referring to those who were equally regarded as both singers and actresses. This compilation features many songs from movies that Doris starred in, but it also includes songs from other movies that Doris recorded simply because she wanted to.
Although this is not a greatest hits package, it features several songs that became big hits for Doris including Move over darling (a UK top ten hit in the sixties), Whatever will be will be and Secret love (both UK number one hits) although Black hills of Dakota and I'll never stop loving you are among her hits that are missing despite their use in soundtracks. Of the movies that Doris starred in, Calamity Jane is represented by Secret love and The deadwood stage. Other songs from her own movies included here are It's magic, Move over darling, Tunnel of love, Pillow talk, Teacher's pet and Whatever will be will be - but a lot of her own movie songs have been omitted to make way for covers of other movie songs including Let's face the music and dance, Three coins in the fountain, Singing in the rain, You'll never walk alone, The sound of music, White Christmas and High hopes. It is worth noting that many of these songs are also available on another UK compilation, 41 Hollywood greats, which is also a collection of songs from the movies. This is a magnificent collection but if you're looking for the definitive collection of Doris Day's songs from the movies she acted and sang in, this isn't it. Indeed, I'm not sure that such a collection has been released. Just enjoy this collection for what it is - a brilliant selection of movie songs generally.

Fantastic!!,

I love this one!! Doris Day has a way of taking a song and making it her own, so that the listener never wants to hear anyone else sing it!!!
This CD contains a great mixture of songs---fun ("Anything You Can Do", "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles"); inspirational ("You'll Never Walk Alone"); love songs ("When I Fall in Love", "Secret Love"); a nice little Christmas number ("White Christmas"); and some of the greatest musical numbers ever written ("The Sound of Music", "It's Magic", "As Long as He Needs Me"); and that's just the beginning! Twenty-five wonderful Doris Day recordings on one CD!! What could be better??? Doris Day just makes me smile :)

As much as I like Doris Day's reditions of these songs, I wish this disc would've included more of her persoanl movie songs, such as "Send Me No Flowers" and "Do Not Disturb". I realize those songs are available on other cd's, but it would be nice to get them all on one disc. But "Que Sera Sera" and "Secret Love" are still gems. And "Move Over, Darling", which was written by her son, Terry Melcher, is my favorite.

so what is there not to like? Some of the songs are from films Doris was in, many are not. The moods and styles differ a bit, which keeps it from being monotonous. If you do not own a lot of Day CD's already, add this one for sure. I also recommend the double CD "Golden Girl." Doris demonstrated "the girl next door personality" with the subtle sensuality every guy craves. Wonderful voice and mostly wonderful instrumental backing on this one.

I just love Doris Day's voice. I always have and sometimes when you go back to something you liked and had had or seen or tasted, you are disappointed because you have built it up too much in your memory but not Doris. I enjoy her all over again. She has a lovely voice and style. It is so easy to find on Amazon instead of looking elsewhere.

Much of my enjoyment of Doris Day comes from having grown up with her movies . . I like her recordings from the big band era, love the movie themes from the 50's and 60's. She has a clear, easy on the ears voice . . and an
upbeat tone that satisfies.

This CD arrived in good condition from Amazon. I liked this CD, since it has hits from Doris Day's old movies, as well as, hits from other movies, such as White Christmas.
