Continuing with the British rock n' roll revival.........., March 23, 2002
This review is from: 25 Steps to the Top (Audio CD)
Showaddywaddy were at the forefront of the British rock n' roll revival back in the latter part of the 1970s, and are still doing their thing around the UK and Europe today. Trouble is, they haven't changed any and their music and style remains somewhat dated. Unlike most other bands of their kind, Showaddywaddy resisted the temptation of recording their own material. Sure, some of their own songs appeared on their albums, but the ones they entered the charts with and heavily promoted during their shows were all cover versions of some popular and not so well known rock n' roll tracks. This CD - one of many 'best of' compilations by the group - focuses on their main chart-toppers from the time this music was considered 'hip'. Sadly, this is no longer the case but the listener is treated to a few hidden gems. Among the best ones on this CD are: "Under The Moon Of Love", "Dancin' Party", "I Wonder Why", "A Little Bit Of Soap" and "Pretty Little Angel Eyes".
As previously mentioned, the group are still touring today (2002) around the UK and they are still relatively popular in Europe. The glory days are long gone now, but this is a good reminder of how things used to be - even if this CD sounds *very* dated now.
Jon.

I dont know why the last reviewer gave such nasty comments. I think Showaddywaddy is GREAT. You must listen to them to form an opinion. This CD is worth the money.

25 steps to 25 years and more.., December 2, 1999

Wonderful! Everything in the previous review applies - with the added bonus of knowing that they are still touring in the UK (as of 1999) - though not the original line-up - and still as good as they ever were!
