5.0 out of 5 stars A Grand symphonic adventure July 25, 2005
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This album provides a quick exposure to some of the best movements in the best symphonies. Many of the tracks will sound familiar. They are played well and have good sound quality.

As a novice musician, i have great appreciation for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good! May 2, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
When I purchased this CD I expected an album of average performances and OK sound. What I got though was 25 superbly clear stereo tracks rendered by quite competent orchestras.

Points of criticism here are minor ones.
Six Beethoven excerpts and only one of Brahms; an example of his magnificent 4th Symphony being conspicuously absent.

No actual liner notes, and the two pages of contents are printed in an exceedingly small font.

Hearing these favorite strains whets the appetite for the complete works, so the job of a "sampler" is well-fulfilled here (not a criticism!).

In summary, you will find this melange of edits from the VOX catalog most satisfying indeed!

TOTAL RUNNING TIME: 79:02

5.0 out of 5 stars Great listening June 11, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I use the "25 favorites" series when I am in the car or using my portable CD player. The quality is good for the price. They provide good variety without risking loss or damage of my more expensive collection from home....

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price June 11, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
As this sort of thing goes, it's not bad -- especially for such a low price. It's also not great. Each selection is okay, for the most part. A few of the performances are dubious. And, it's a "best of" collection, so it's pieces of symphonies, in no particular order, picked -- as far as I can tell -- completely randomly. It's okay if you want background music while you read or work on the computer or something, but if you want something for serious listening, this isn't it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD October 2, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I bought this CD with high hopes that the quality would be good, the songs would truly be 'favorites', and that I wouldn't be throwing my money away. I was not disappointed. The quality is excellent, I recognize many of the symphonys, and the money I paid was very well spent. The play time is great, and I can listen to the same CD over and over again without getting bored. I love this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price September 2, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
For the price, this series of CD's is amazing. I teach a music history class for middle schoolers, and I find a great selection of some of the most well-known pieces. I want my students to be familiar with the most well-known and well-loved works, so this is a great series for me. Of course, I enjoy listening to them myself. Anyone who is a true Classical musician might be disappointed, however, as many of the selections are not played in their entirety. There's no way they could fit 25 Symphony movements in a 70 minute CD.
They do fade out pretty tastefully. For my use, it's great, though, since I never play more than a minute or so of a selection for my 7th and 8th graders.

Ordered this for my 90 year old Father. Classical music sooths him and he listens to it for hours. They got it to him real quick, a day sooner than I thought. Great work and he likes it.

5.0 out of 5 stars How To Stop Road Rage January 29, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have put this CD and a few others in my car and it's How To Stop Road Rage in one easy lesson. The music is gorgeous, calming, and just all around peaceful no matter the tempo or the subject matter. And, I have to say that instead of watching TV as much as I used to do I find myself listening to this CD and others that I have recently ordered while reading and it's much more inspiring. Thanks Amazon.
