5.0 out of 5 stars The Young and The Talented, July 9, 2008
This review is from: 25 Under 25: Up And Coming American Photographers, Vol 2 (Paperback)
This book presents a startlingly moving and visually captivating array of photo-essays by our country's newest group of professional photographers. The introduction by the renowned photographer Sylvia Plachy and editorial notes by Iris Tillman Hill give the collection and knowledge of the young people responsible for these amazing shots, due credit and contextual depth. The young adult artist's own words accompanying their work, especially their quotes about photography and early memories of their first camera are enlightening and revealing. It is so refreshing and inspiring to see accomplished young people given an opportunity to be highlighted for something other than the current obsession with rock and roll performing and movie stardom. Even if you aren't a photographer or planning to become one, this book belongs in your collection- it will be thrilling to see which of these names become household recognized and on the front page of our national magazines or housed in our best museums. I am certain many of them will be there.

This review is from: 25 Under 25: Up And Coming American Photographers, Vol 2 (Paperback)
I read this book all in one sitting because I didn't want to put it down. It is beautiful, inspiring, and perfect for young photographers. Just make sure you read the introduction, it was probably my favorite part of the entire book.

This review is from: 25 Under 25: Up And Coming American Photographers, Vol 2 (Paperback)
Finished reading TWENTY-FIVE UNDER TWENTY-FIVE: Up-and-Coming American Photographers, Volume Two, selected by Sylvia Plachy (176 pgs., 2008). This book is the result of a project of the Center for Documentary Studies. This is the second volume in this project. In this book, Plachy, the well-known photographer for the VILLAGE VOICE and other outlets, has selected photographs illustrating the work of twenty-five up-and-coming American photographers all under the age of twenty-five. These photos range from intimate family photos of growing up, to war-torn areas of this world, to drug users, to loving strangers, to abstractness, to nature & much more. Some of these photos are very emotionally engaging. Some are boring. All are well-done. Some of these photos can be considered almost pornographic; but they are more suggestive then explicit. This is a fine collection of works by young American photojournalists. These photos all tell stories.
