5.0 out of 5 stars What a fantastic party game!
25 Words or Less is fast-paced fun. I brought this game to a party and the crowd had such a good time with it that the hostess ran out to buy her own copy the next day. This is a game that keeps you on the edge of your seat and really brings out the competetive edge. Yet, it also appeals to those who don't usually enjoy playing party games. Let the bidding wars...

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow, Restricted, and Creative
This word game came out to be hampered by the word restriction when I played. Two players bid down from 25 on how many words it'll take them to get their team to say five specific words. Success gains the card and failure forfeits it to the other team. It was tough to get people to say any words even without the time restriction. Someone would always win the bid at...

5.0 out of 5 stars 25 hours or more of fun, August 3, 2000

As an aspiring creator of board games, this game makes me jealous. There are words on a card. There is a timer. There is a baord. And you have to give clues. Those Winning Moves people went home early in game design but stayed up all night thinking of the best possible strategy/word game they could think of. It's so simple, yet so many hours of fun.

You are able to do everything you can in any word/trivia game - and that is show off your great skill of punny and clever clues. Keeping tract of your clues in your head, though, (counting and recounting) is, I think, the most suspensful & nerve racking part. Watch out for an abundance of laughter and bonding when your best friend or spouse rides the same brain wave and gets exactly what your talking about..."Stem Corona...STEM CORONA? ...um, um..."ROOT BEER"

Fantastic game - Game of the Year for Games Mag and everything. Small, compact, etc. Just be sure that your playing with a bunch that will be familiar with some obscure words.

ENJOY!

This is one the better games that I have bought recently. The concept seems simple, but it does get harrowing when the timer is winding down and you realize you only have three clues left to get two words on the card. The game tends to work better with a higher number of people, as more are able to guess at the clues. Beware- This game can lead to arguments between couples when one member can't understand how the other can misinterpret the "perfect" clue. All in all, it is a good game, fun and thought provoking, and a great way to spend an evening. In my opinion, it was definitely worth the money.

WARNING: Do not purchase this game unless you are willing to continue to host more parties. Your guests will request rematch after rematch. We play men vs. women. Inevitably there is a ton of laughter. Game piques your creativity. Time element keeps things moving along, so time flies. We have never stopped at the 10-card "official" win -- it's just too much fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Party Game for All Ages, January 26, 2000

If you're looking for a game for geniuses, artists or actors, try something else. If you want a fun party game to play with families and friends alike, consider 25 Words or Less.

25 Words or Less is a wonderful party game for any age group ranging from kids to grandparents. The instructions are easy to understand, so you can start playing as soon as you open the box. Two teams face off trying to get their team to guess the secret words (ranging from boat to M*A*S*H) on a card using a limited number of clues. With time running out and only three clue words left, only the perfect clue will do.

An appealing part of this game is that it isn't based on trivia, luck, or even artistic skill. If you can give clues to your teammates and describe words quickly, then you can play this game. When I first played the game with relatives, I was amazed at the fact that everyone played even my seven-year-old cousin.

Another great feature about the game is the bidding for the cards. You can't simply use all 25 words. That would be too simple. You have to outbid the other team in order to even try giving the clues. I've played games where I had to give the clues to all five words on the card with only a total of nine words of clues. Trust me, it can get fairly difficult even for adults who think they know everything. Plus if you don't know all of the words, let your opponent take it and try their luck.

This game is for people of all ages. I have played this with my younger cousins and my friends at college. So far, everyone has enjoyed the game enough to ask for a re-match. Kids, college students and adults alike will enjoy this game if they like a fast-paced contest with their friends.

Our neighbors who are very much into board games brought this to our house for a party. It kept 16 people happily entertained---it can be played by teams to move faster than pairs. It reminds me of "Password"---trying to get someone to guess a word, but the idea of contracting for how many clues it will take in advance is different. We'll be buying our own copy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST-HAVE GAME! ALL-TIME FAVORITE!, February 1, 2001
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

It doesn't matter whether I play this game with my hard-core gaming friends or with my more social party-game friends: this is always "the" favorite. It is a real white-knuckle play requiring concentration, verbal-acuity, creativity and sometimes, um, vocal restraint.

The game has two parts: the bid (in which one bidder from each team bids the total number of words she will use --a la "Name That Tune"-- to get her teammates to guess all five words on a gamecard) and the play (in which the winning bidder offers clues to his teammates hoping to get them to say all five words within a minute for final point-possession of the card.)

We often play with three to a team instead of two. It's more fun. The bids rarely end above 13 and often get down to 7, though when the bids are that brazenly low they are almost always defeated!

Have you ever heard of a "kenning?" Ok, it's an english-class term, but it's useful strategy in this game. It is the combination of two formerly unconnected nouns to convey the idea of another noun. For example, in the Odyssey, Homer refers to deer as "heather-steppers" and means deer. In the game, this approach makes those two-word clues quite accessible: who could mistake the intention of "Kennedy-killer" or "Robin's Boss"? However, how many clue-words would it take you to get someone to say "loafer", "tinsel", "window pane" or "Dallas Cowboys"? Can't resist trying, can you? Once all of the players get the hang of it, the game is very competitive and a lot of fun for all.

The unique aspect of this game is that two people bid for the right to give the clues to their teams. The player who is willing to attempt getting his or her team to say all the words on the card with the lowest number of clues wins the bid. Taking time to match the bidding pairs will enhance the experience.

We fell in love with this game. I chose it because of its similarity to Taboo, but now, instead of being hung up on not using the words on the Taboo list, you have to be mindful of the amount of words you use to describe the words on your list. The name of the game is 25 Words or Less, in which you have to describe the five words on your card in 25 words or less. But, there is a twist. There is a bidding process in which two people look at the card and bid against each other to see who can describe the five words using less words. For example: The list contains the words: Lion, Tree, House, Balance Beam, & Courage. Two opposing clue givers will look at the list and proceed to bid. Person A bids 25, Person B bids 24, Person A bids 23, and so on until one of the two says I can't go any lower, the card is yours. Then the one minute timer starts and now however many words were bid is how many words the clue giver can use to get his/her team to guess all five words on the list. We had a clue giver bid 12 words and she was able to get us to guess all 5 words on the list in only 10 words. Surprisingly, not many of us in the party went over the words, if anything we had more words to spare most of the time. This game is great and with only three times played we had over an hour and a half of fun.

25 Words or Less is a fun game. Being a college student, it encourages competition while challenging us to expand our vocabulary. You have to use your head, but it's fun!!
