- It was well packaged.
- Auto-detect worked fine.
- Transfer went through perfectly.

I would feel like an idiot right now if I had bought Microsoft's overpriced hard drive.

I've been through one of these "generic" HDDs. At first it seemed to work just fine. All I had to do was install it, attach the old HDD to the transfer cable, and Viola! That is until the drive failed about 6 weeks later. I turned the console on, and the HDD appeared as "unformatted"
On the second attempt (after hacking the drive again, I encountered the same problem right from the get go. I Installed the drive, began the data transfer. Immediately after the system reboot, it appeared as "unformatted". Unfortunately for me, this time I lost everything.

This site -> [...]
goes through the process that this HDD probably uses to make it compatible with the older xbox's.

Based on my experience with theses HDDs, I can not recommend them as a stable piece of hardware. Live and learn, I've had good experiences with lots of 3rd party hardware, unfortunately this is not one of those times.

The item its self works great came quick looks fine. The only problem I have and its an issue for me maybe not others...but the seller failed to mention that it was a used product. I myself dont like to buy used because of issues in the past and believe it to be unprofessional of the seller to leave this fact out. Other than that its good and a steal for the price.

Finally! After using the same small external hard drive from 2006 and then using not one but two 16gb thumb drives. I was once again needing more space (which is pretty easy to do when you are saving ENTIRE 360 games). So I finally bit the bullet and bought this gem and I am more than happy that I did. It did not come with a transfer cable but I was able to use my thumb drives to do all the shuffling by swapping the new external and the old back and forth, back and forth. The backward compatibility with original xbox games is not a problem for me since all my saves are on the old drive and I can just plug that in when I need it (I keep my live account on my internal memory so that is not a problem either). I also figure that by having Xbox Live Gold and all this memory, that the free games you can download on Games with Gold, the external hard drive will pay for itself over the course of time. Win WIn in my book!

I guess another thing was the packaging it came in was perfect. A small white box that fit just around it and inside the hard drive was in bubble wrap and plastic molding that fit on both long ends. But what I really like about it is that I can put my old hard drive in the packaging and save it for a rainy day, knowing that it will be safe.

At first I REALLY didn't trust this product, it wasn't a legitimate 360 HDD and from what I heard were prone to failure but I bought it via the Amazon Warehouse, Amazon's service where they allow you to get the same product cheaper because of some damage with the box or something that forced them to open the product, so if it did crash on me I would just need to contact Amazon for my refund.

But I never did, its been about a month using the HDD and it turns out this thing has actually been pretty reliable. I transfered my stuff with ease, my 360 got a speed improvement from the extra space, I've been able to download XBL games and DLC without problems and I haven't had a single hardware issue yet. mind you its STILL a 3rd party so I will be keeping my suspicions about it for the next year but overall, a solid product so far.

My only compliant is that it was too tight to fit into my 360 and now it won't latch off without force, that concerns me that I could break it without knowing while just trying to clean my 360. but I have no need to latch it off for now and I will let my repair person handle it if I do need to take it in.

I was reading some other reviews and some say you need an cable to transfer the information, but I wasn't sure if it was mandatory to have it. I thought the hard drive would come totally empty and needed some kind of process before it could be used. I was wrong. Luckily I had my "new" used Xbox from a coworker, So I didn't have any info in the old 20GB hard drive, that didn't work.
I have to say, this is a REALLY GOOD price for this hard drive, and it works flawlessly so far. So I'm really happy with this. I would TOTALLY recommend it.
About compatibility with older games from Xbox original, I can't say, I don't own any of them...

This item was in excellent condition and works great. We purchased this on amazon to get the most hard drive space for our money. The 60 GB hard drive brand new at Walmart or Fred Meyers in Juneau Alaska is $129.99 and this one was half that with shipping. My daughter can now play games that require more hard drive/memory in order to play her games.

I bought this HDD for my son so he could save and play his games on xbox. It started working OK but after a couple of weeks it completely died. Returning soon.. will have to consider buying the more expensive Microsoft branded HDD.
