I am disappointed with this cd. Too many songs that I've never heard of before.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Ever Christmas Album, November 29, 2000

I hope that one day this Christmas album receives it's due. This is not Bobby Darrin "Splish-Splashing" through light-weight Christmas fare. This is A+ arrangement and performance of Christmas standard and not so standard songs that delivers a marvelous balance of tradition and freshness. You will not feel as though your listening to a Christmas Album designed to make a gratuitous appearance on the music shop's Christmas rack. This album was made soley to capture the spirit of Christmas in music. Holiday classics, like "Silent Night", "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks" are treated with taste and a reverence not typically associated with Darrin. The songs are interpreted as a testimony to the words and spirit, unlike many renditions where the artist tries to become larger than the work, or use the holiday pieces as a showplace for vocal gymnastics. "Child of God", "Jehovah Hallelujah", and "Mary, Where is your Baby" are incredible upbeat celebrations that will find you humming along during the first listen, although you may never have heard these tunes before. And I assure you, after you've heard this version of "Go Tell it on the Mountain", all other versions will sound wrong forever after. This album will stand up to any Classic Christmas album, including Nat, Frank and Bing.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Unusual Christmas CD, December 27, 1999
By
This review is from: 25th Day of December (Audio CD)
Some folks may have a problem with the mixture of songs on this disc. I personally don't. Darin's handling of some of the more serious holiday standards is with complete reverence. His rendition of Silent Night has some very moving vocals and I'm not what one would consider a religious person. Right along side of the standards are obscure spirituals. Jehovah Hallelujah and Child of God are two of which. They're great fun to sing along with and imagine yourself as part of the choir. This is a Christmas album that you just don't see everywhere and that's really a shame because it's so darn good. Mr. Darin's Chrismas Auld Lang Syne is of a classic caliber and really should be playing over those store PAs right along with Bing Crosby's White Christmas and Elvis Presley's Blue Christmas. And if I had my druthers, it would be.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Christmas Album, December 26, 2001
This review is from: 25th Day of December (Audio CD)
This album showcases the true meaning of Christmas, in a sincere, reverential way. Each song is performed beautifully, with total respect to the holiday season. I listen to it all year long. I rank this album alongside Mahalia Jackson's, proving once again that Bobby Darin could successfully master all kinds of music. The best Christmas album ever made!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Darin Was A Unique and Special Talent, August 20, 2004

A wonderful Christmas album. Darin sang the definitive version of "Auld Lang Syne." Great phrasing, mellow voice. A beautiful collection of eclectic Yuletide songs. Bobby was one of the all-time greats. With all due respect, Frank and Tony lucked out on December 23, 1973.

5.0 out of 5 stars Innovative performances . . . terrific, March 4, 2002

You should buy this album for no other reason than Darin's unique arrangement of Auld Lang Sine - simply beautiful - cry tears of joy - I recently rediscovered this gem - a more succinct and perfect rendering of holiday spirit could not be sung! Will be a part of my Christmass celebration in perpetuity.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 25th Day of December, December 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: 25th Day of December (Audio CD)
I've been a Bobby Darin fan since my early teens, and loved rocking to hits like "Splish Splash", "Mack the Knife", down thru "Multiplication"; however, his Chirstmas Album (CD), his only one is really special. Darin uses his God gifted talents in singing and bringing praise and love to such Christmas classics as "Ave Maria", "Silent Night", "Dona Nobis", "While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks". He also changes gears in his presentation by singing American classics such as "Go Tell It on the Mountain", "Jehovah Hallelujah", "Mary Where Is Your Baby", "Pacem".

One of my very favorites, which in my opinion truly highlights this Christmas CD is Darin's version of "Auld Lang Syne". What a beautiful Christmas / Holiday tribute by a star that left us all too soon while he was still in his thirties. In closing, an interesting "tidbit" of info on Darin's version of "Auld Lang Sine", it was said that Elvis Presely loved it as well, and was known to have played it repeatedly at his home during the Christmas and New Years' holiday season.

For those who enjoy a different but classic and unique Christmas CD that you and the whole family will enjoy, I recommend buying this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's not "easy listening" music, it's much better, April 29, 2001

This Christmas CD is imaginative and artistically produced. It showcases Bobbby's tremendous vocal range. When I first tried to find it at a local bookstore, the music clerk muttered under his breath "easy listening" and "why are all these people coming in here asking for this" -- well, it's not merely "easy listening" -- it's meaningful Christmas songs with top-notch orchestration. And -- people are asking for it because it's very good. It's not just the same old Christmas tunes, it's not just be-bop, either. It's heartfelt, genuine, and meaningful.

4.0 out of 5 stars New Yule from golden oldies days, September 5, 2005
This review is from: 25th Day of December (Audio CD)
After playing the sheet music to "Child of God", I was thrilled to finally hear the song. The music is upbeat even by today's standards and many of the songs are original or have been given the Darrin touch. Truly wish I had found this album 40 years ago but then it wouldn't have been digitally remastered on CD which is certainly a plus!

4.0 out of 5 stars Merry Christmas, everybody, and a Happy New Year!, December 20, 2007

This Christmas album by Hall of Famer Bobby Darin was released in 1960. Bobby eschewed contemporary Christmas songs in favor of traditional hymms and Negro spirituals. No songs about Santa here, only songs about the birth of Jesus. Bobby sings them very well, with help from the Bobby Scott Chorale. The CD includes one bonus track, "Christmas Auld Lang Syne", which was released as a single the same year the album came out. It probably wasn't included on the album because it isn't about the birth of Jesus. This is a very good Christmas album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Christmas album ever made, December 19, 2008
This review is from: 25th Day of December (Audio CD)
Bobby Darin was at his absolute best on this album. Even now , over 45 years later, I love to hear his beautiful versions of these all time Christmas classics. This album is for anyone who loves traditional Christmas songs. Don't be thrown off by the rock songs Bobby sang. These are great standard versions. Just beautiful.
