5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Item
I ordered the complete model with insulation and thermal cover. The item was easy to install, and fit exactly to my attic stair. You can feel the dramatic difference it makes as far as preventing cold in/hot air out through the attic stair. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good product idea, mediocre quality
The product consists of a cardboard box, a sheath of reflective material and two stips of batting insulation. The box was torn & the tabs would't stay in their slots. The seller sent another box promptly - also torn. I wrote the seller, who said the box was still ok even if it was torn & didn't send another. Good product idea, mediocre quality, prompt email response but no intention to improve.

On the plus side, it was quick and easy to put together, and, albeit the box needs some reinforcement to be able to last (I will tape the torn sections and the edges of the box to make them more durable). If the quality were better, I'd recommend purchasing it since the functionality you get for the time and money invested is a decent trade off.

2.0 out of 5 stars Corning is better at half the price, June 24, 2010

A neighbor got this model for $100, but the Corning Pink attic door cover is better for $50. Notice some of these covers are going for $200, and of course Home Depot charges $300. Yes, attic insullation is needed, but everyone except Corning wants to overcharge for attic door covers. PTB

3.0 out of 5 stars It looked good on paper, December 9, 2009

Because of the sheer mass of this assembled unit, we found it impossible to get it in between the 22 inch bays and when lifted end up; it did not clear the trusses. I was necessary to not use the box that was provided to form the inside structure. With other cardboard and a lot of duct tape we have it working. It is now doing what it was designed to do. The parts and the design that were given us did not work in our attic. I suggest you measure the distance between your trusses and consider what would happen when you need to lift it off to get into the attic. Where will it go --is there enough clearance? We could have bought the parts from the hardware store and built it our self cheaper. Again being fair, we were able to modify it and get it to work however.

It is easy to move aside and then reinstall any time you wish to go in or out of the attic. While it may be a good value and do exactly as promised, I have to laugh since it probably cost about $10 to produce. If insulating the attic stair is your desire, this is the product for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars They saw me coming!, March 17, 2010

The basic unit, which sells separately for I believe $29.95, is nothing more than a cardboard box! What a bargain! In their ad they show people standing on the box. What a scam pic that is. Would be a good way to crush it but at least they tell you not to stand on it, but why not guys, you advertise it as having that kind of strength!? Then for the remaining $70 you get a silver reflective shield (does it stop kryptonite?) and a couple pieces of fiberglass, all probably worth not much more than a few dollars. Oh, I almost forgot the few feet worth of cheap weather stripping they also include. It's cumbersome to have to lift in and out of place everytime you go into the attic. Bottom line...save your money and look for something that is at least worth what you are spending. Guess they saw me coming!!

3.0 out of 5 stars simple install, overpriced, June 24, 2010
This review is from: 25x54 Attic Pull Down Stair Ladder Cover, R-50 Insulation (Misc.)
I got the "best" product with the insulation included and installed it even though I have zero handyman skills so on that level no complaint. I just installed it so we'll see if it does the job over time and whether it will hold up.

I have to say however, that it does seem overpriced, but I am not a production whiz and know that sales volume etc. drives price. Essentially you get a big cardboard box, the shiny reflective cover and two pieces of insulation. I'm guessing if I had any skills at all I could do this for less than $25 in materials. But being clueless in these things, it was a convenience for me to install rather than trying to make a box, sew a cover together, etc. So for the totally skill-less like me, this is an option for you rather than pay a handyman $300 in time and material to build you one.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wasn't sure about this, but it works well., February 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 25x54 Attic Pull Down Stair Ladder Cover, R-50 Insulation (Misc.)
I wasn't sure about shelling out the money for this product - mostly because I wasn't sure exactly what I was going to get and whether it was a good value. I looked around and others are trying to sell only some parts of this set for less, but you need everything. It is basically an upside-down cardboard box with a sheet of std insulation above it, and then wrapped or fully enclosed by a shiny insulating blanket/jacket. The blanket/jacket covers up the sides of the upside-down box and the top of the upside-down box. The blanket/jacket goes over the std. insulation too. Then you just slide the assembly on and off of the attic opening when using it as an entry way basically just by moving it out of the way. It gets real cold in my attic in winter, so having any insulation on my opening makes a big difference. The one thing I would say is measure your opening - mine is slightly longer than the product I got. The other thing I would say is DEFINITELY check out the video review of this product - it is very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly effective product, super simple to install., January 18, 2010

This review is from: 25x54 Attic Pull Down Stair Ladder Cover, R-50 Insulation (Misc.)
This may be the best 120 bucks I've ever spent. I can't believe what a difference the stair cover has made in my heating oil usage! I live in Southern Maine....so far, we are having a somewhat milder winter than the past couple of winters. I installed the stair cover early in November. I am writing this in mid-January. Normally during this part of winter, I would have gone through about 550 gallons of heating oil since that time (2 fill ups on the oil tank). I would say I've gone through more like 300 gallons. At about 2.60 a gallon, that's a savings of over $500. Now, my house is only about 18 years old, and fairly well insulated otherwise. That having been said, I am astonished that something so inexpensive, simple in design and easy to install could result in such a huge savings. Oh, the house feels much warmer, too. I noticed the difference right away, especially in the upstairs hallway where the pulldown attic stairway is.

this has been an excellent item for insulating my attic door. however, i thought it was over priced. i feel that it should have been about 25% less costly, but it does do a good job of insulating my attic.

I ordered the Attic Stair Cover on Wednesday, received it on Friday, and installed it on Saturday. It was an easy 1/2 hour trouble-free installation. It fits perfectly and our home is already warmer. Kudos to the company for marketing this product!
