Product Description

Color: Natural

If you love your hardwood floors, you'll love our wood-grain foam puzzle mat, because the hardwood-look pattern blends right in! Like our original play mats, it's thicker, comfier, and more durable than other interlocking foam floor mats, but you'll barely notice it's there. Makes hard floors safer, and playtime more comfortable for kids of all ages (grownups, too!). Foam mat pieces are 5/8" thick like others, for greater protection and longevity. Create a soft play area with this 26-piece set, or combine several sets and cover the playroom. Each interlocking tile measures 12"H x 12"W x 5/8" thick. For all ages. Choose Espresso for dark wood floors and Natural for light and medium wood floors. Designed by OneStepAhead! This is part of OneStepAhead's exclusive foam puzzle mat collection. Additional pieces and sets sold separately, so you can mix and match to create your perfect play mat. All OneStepAhead puzzle mat sets are compatible.

These are soft enough to cushion an impact to a falling child's head, but firm enough to crawl/walk on without deforming completely. They are light, the finish is easy to wipe clean, and they look good. We have a hardware floor and got these in preference to anything primary colored. While these are noticeably different to the hardwood floor, when you walk into the room they don't jump out as gaudy. I'm very happy with the look, feel and finish of them. They fit together well, but not seamlessly.

We got 26 tiles for $40, which I feel is a good deal. I'm only giving this 4 stars rather than 5 because they don't include the edging pieces, and charge an additional fee for the edge and corner pieces of almost $5 each, which makes the edges three times more expensive to buy than the other pieces that are much larger. Edging the 6x4 piece mat we made would cost more than 3 times the mat price, which is just silly. (It's a question for their marketing folks, but I doubt it relates to manufacturing cost.) I'd also like to be able to buy an extension pack of, say, 10 more tiles to make it a 6x6 piece mat, but alas, no such option seems to be available.

All in all it's a good buy, and I'd recommend them. I might even buy another complete set of 26 just to be able to extend it. I won't be buying the exorbitantly priced edges and corners though. I'd take a Stanley knife to the ones I have first and make a linear edge myself.

NOTE: These tiles smelled very strongly of VOCs when we received them, and we had to let them gas out for a few days to let the smell dissipate enough for us to use them anywhere near our child. 3 days was enough. Don't expect to use these immediately upon receipt.

Looks nice. Too expensive if you buy the edging pieces. You will need an edge piece for each outer square of the mat --- this adds up. Also, the edge pieces vary in fit and finish. The mat has a chemical smell that does not dissipate for a couple of months, even if you air it out outside. My child's hair and clothes would smell like the mat after she'd played on it for awhile. The smell is suppose to be nontoxic, but it's also suppose to dissipate in several days. This product is made in China. This mat is thicker than any others I found in the stores.

Nice and soft and fit together. They even look pretty realistically like hardwood. We called ours "the dance floor" in the baby's room.

However, that pretty wood look washed right off of several of the squares when we wiped spit-up off them a few times which makes them ugly and not worth the money.

i bought this matt and agree it looks great. but it stunk so much it gave me a headache just opening it up. I worry-----to sell this for a BABY seems cruel! i worry the fumes are toxic! i learned eva isnt toxic though, and used in many things like yoga mats and flip flops. so it may be the wood pattern printed on it? it really is strong smelling! like a black marker in front of your nose.

anyway, after many days airing out away from baby, we began using it and loved it. but two months went by and every single piece began peeling. the printed wood patter begain peeling off. a few squares were so bad no wood pattern remanied.
i know what you are thinking: return it and be done with it. but i forgot about the horrible smell which had dissipated entirely, and i was addicted to the look of the mat, so i got a free replacement set. This replacement order is just as smelly as the last and i continue to get a headache when i'm even near it. it's been 4 days now.still airing it out. i think this is my last buy of these matts, if they peel i will return it and get a floor rug. who knows whats less toxic to our baby at this point.

someone needs to investigate what VOCs are making this mat stink so much more than most other matts. i am worried we are hurting our children and ourselves. all for fashion.

I recently purchased this mat, not for a baby but for a dorm room. My roommate and I wanted something more unique than a rug in our room, and a baby mat sounded like a great idea. After sifting through lots of bold primary colors and "abc" block mats, I was excited to find this one, and we each ordered a set to cover the floor of our room.

The mat arrived in just a few short days, and I have to say the smell wasn't nearly as strong as some other reviews made me fear. I aired it out for a night and everything was good. My only concern would be about peeling, since it will be taking on moderate daily traffic, but we're taking good care of it. So far, everything is great and we're proud to say we're probably the only people on campus with "hardwood" floors in our dorm!

I really love the faux bois look of this mat. We have a small NYC apartment and it's nice that it's not overrun with garish baby junk. I'd recommend this mat based on the aesthetics alone, but expect a LONG off-gassing process. Not days. Weeks. I purchased the mat a month ago and have only put it down today. I can still smell it though not as strongly as before. We're lucky we have a storage space where it could off-gas. I don't know how anyone could tolerate the smell right out of the box.

I didn't purchase the edging...just one more thing for the baby to pull off and chew on.
