FROM THE AUTHOR: What 28 Days is all about,
By Gabrielle Lichterman (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 28 Days (Paperback)
I'm a little frustrated that I can't get Amazon.com to put the description of 28 Days on this page. (They're more bureaucratic than the DMV!) So I'm going to take the opportunity to tell you about it in the reviews section:
My book, 28 Days: What Your Cycle Reveals about Your Love Life, Moods, and Potential, is a brand-new kind of daily horoscope. Unlike astrology, 28 Days shows women how to predict what practically every aspect of their day will be like based solely on the ups and downs of their monthly hormones. How does it work? Based on lots of scientific research (I'm a health journalist after all), 28 Days shows women with menstrual cycles how their hormones affects virtually everything they do--their mood, brain skills, how they spend money, how they feel about their relationship, who they're attracted to, what they shop for, what they're best at on the job, and so much more. Once you know how your hormones affect you, you know what your day is going to be like. And that helps you plan your life more easily than ever! Even better? 28 Days is a fun, easy read. That's because I hate dry, boring books about hormones. Plus, I wanted to make the book fun to re-read with every monthly cycle. So you don't have to worry that this is going to feel like some biology 101 class. It's more like your girlfriend dishing on the really fun part of being a girl--your hormone cycle! A must have for every woman and the men she knows!,

Hallelujah! Someone has finally made sense of my hormones!
I never recognized the pattern to my monthly mood swings and energy levels, until I read this book. Sure, I knew that sometimes I would cry about the fact that I had run out of orange juice, and other times I would be likely to reenact a scene from the Exorcist if someone looked at me sideways. I knew that certain days I could zip around at the speed of light, and others I felt like I could barely drag myself out of bed but I never understood when or why. Now, I can predict and plan for these days, as well as know when I'll be at my peak for presentations, going on vacation, or getting it on! I've also learned how to prevent cramps, when to give in to cravings, and when I'll be most likely to whip out my wallet and spend like it's going out of style. My boyfriend's reading the book now, too, so he knows what to expect and why. Gabrielle Lichterman tells women what we should have been told ages ago, and she does it with humor and style. Her expert advice, written in a fun way that everyone can understand, makes it feel like you're talking to your best friend. The best thing is that the book addresses all women. On the pill or off it, in a relationship or not, long or short cycles, you need this book!

Always Check Your Hormone Horoscope,
By Judy Ann (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 28 Days (Paperback)
Always Check Your Hormone Horoscope: that is exactly what I do ever since buying and reading this fantastic book by Gabrielle Lichterman. I literally bought it for all my friends! It is so easy to use and overflowing with scientific facts presented in such a fun and sassy way. This is a book to be read, re-read, and most importantly, SHARED: woman to woman, wife to husband, mother to daughter, girlfriend to girlfriend and/or boyfriend. Makes a GREAT bridesmaid gift too. Two great ways to start my day are checking my astrological horoscope and my "hormone horoscope" to get the feel and flavor of the day. 28 Days is an invaluable tool for managing emotion and performance. Highly recommended.

Let's Go...to You!,

I got so excited by reading this that I had to hop online and tell you about it! I intend to buy this for all my girlfriends who routinely gripe and moan along with me about our reliable, but until now, unpredictable mood swings. "28 Days" is an expertly written book that helps women feel understood and no longer held hostage by the whims of wily hormones. One of the best things about this fun and engaging read is that, not only is it based on science with accompanying references, but it's useful for every day. Like a travel guide to yourself, you'll return again and again to "28 Days."

The Survivor's Manual for the female body!,
By
This review is from: 28 Days (Paperback)
I already knew that when PMS hits, all I want is my couch, my Ben N Jerry's, and my remote (and sometimes a tazer gun for anyone who gets in my way). I just never knew why, or what to do about it.
This book takes women (and our clueless men) through each day of our 28 day cycle, explaining which hormones are surging, which are retreating, and how that affects everything from confidence level to verbal ability to impulse shopping. It has tips on how to reduce cravings, stop cramps before they happen, and make the most of your sex life (even if, like me, you're in a dating desert). The author modifies her information and advice to include women who are single, in relationships, on birth control pills and off, and she writes with sass and humor, so you feel like you're getting advice from a friend. Now when I'm deciding when I'm going to ask my boss for time off, schedule a reunion with the ex, or have a beach day with the girls, I check this book and see what day I'm on. I'm addicted! Great gift for the cool women in your life. And if you've ever tried to address a serious problem with your guy only to hear him ask "What are you, on your period!?", or try unsuccessfully to explain why he can't squeeze your breasts like ripe melons, especially on THAT WEEK, get him a copy too!

Make the most of your creativity,
This review is from: 28 Days (Paperback)
Most articles about the menstral cycle focus only the more negative aspects of any associated mood changes - such as irritability, weepiness, bingeing etc...This book covers all of these plus many of positive aspects (such as creativity) that are driven by hormone changes through-out the cycle. Better still it tells you exactly which days of the month you can expect to get that creative urge so that you can plan for & make the most of these days. Of course this book won't work quite as well for you if you don't have a standard 28 day cycle - however just knowing which positive aspects are associated with, say, that rise in progesterone should enable you to chart your own cycle.

So right on target its spooky!,

This review is from: 28 Days (Paperback)
My girlfriend and I have been reading this book together, and having a lot of fun... we pick it up throughout the month and nine times out of ten it is right on target as far as her moods, etc. Add to this Ms Lichterman's wit and humorous anticdotes, and you have one of the best book purchases we've made in quite a while...

It's the new Our Bodies Ourselves,
This review is from: 28 Days (Paperback)
I was skeptical at first about the book 28 Days because I have a menstrual cycle that varies from month to month. I might be 25 days one month and 32 the next. But the book shows you how to adapt the daily "hormone horoscope" to any length cycle. (It's so easy, I couldn't believe it.)
Anyway, after I applied the book to my cycle, I was so surprised at how right on it was. On Day 4, I was more outgoing. On Day 13, I was so attracted to masculine-looking guys. On Day 22, I was sluggish and had trouble talking. On Day 27 I felt more creative and intuitive. It was so neat to be able to chart my moods and what I'd feel like and be like from day to day. Besides being completely cool for learning about your own body (hence why I think this is the new Our Bodies Ourselves or at least a good addition to it), 28 Days is just darned practical. I now know when to schedule my vacations, client phone calls, wedding, going out with the girls, and everything else according to how I know I'll feel. If you don't already know, the author gives a kinda sneak peek of the book in her weekly "hormone horoscopes" that are free on her website at hormonology.info. YOu can get a lot of information about your cycle there, too.

This was my favorite book buy all year !!!!,
By Sherri B (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 28 Days (Paperback)
I saw Gabrielle Lichterman on a morning TV show talking about her book 28 Days. When she said I could predict my day based on my hormone cycle, I logged onto Amazon and bought a copy right then. It was just so intriguing. And I'm so glad I got this book. I love it so much, I'm now writing my first Amazon review!
If you don't already know, 28 Days bills itself as a daily horoscope that uses your body's own hormones to tell you what your day will be like. This is amazing! I used to be surprised when I'd wake up one day and be in a good mood or I'd wake up and be down or mad. Now there are no surprises. I know exactly what days I'll be up, down and somewhere in between. It's so cool! But that's not all. Acording to 28 Days my hormones influence how I spend money, what guys I like and what my work day will be like (as if it's ever good anyway, but that's another story), what my relationship will be like and so on. The most amazing part is how right on this book is. I've read it and re-read it (it's really funny, so it's an easy re-read), and I'm really surprised at how accurate this stuff is. (Why didn't I learn this stuff back in health class? I wish I'd known this stuff when I got my first period!) I highly recommend this book to all women who have a menstrual cycle. It's accurate, it's a riot to read, and you'll be suprised by how much your hormones affect you every day!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 28 Days (Paperback)
This book is the best thing I've ever found for understanding yourself. Why is getting your to-do list done important some days, and just a piece of garbage another. I am amazed at how right on this book is. And it makes me feel ok for being the way I am. There is a reason for it. Ideas for how to minimize less than desriable attitudes, or how to take advantage of the perfect day. I recommend it for any woman between 12 and whenever its over. Even young girls. Might explain why sometimes you ace that math test and other times you just can't remember anything.
