4.0 out of 5 stars Personal Success through handling the basics.
Most of us know the things in life that are preventing us from reaching our true potential. Then again, some of us simply don't care. However, after reading this highly informative book, I discovered that there are a few areas in life that required attention - absurdly simple areas, such as basics for caring for one and one's home and possessions. 3.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing ideas - difficult to implement
The 28 principles outlined in these tapes run the gamut from common-sense to slightly insane. Worthwhile, but way-too challenging for most folks. Build a super-reserve in all areas? Sure - where do I sign?? Nice idea - but most of us struggle to get there! Unhook from the future? Great idea - also hard to do!! Take care of yourself - elimnate delay - don't...

4.0 out of 5 stars Personal Success through handling the basics., July 17, 2003
Most of us know the things in life that are preventing us from reaching our true potential. Then again, some of us simply don't care. However, after reading this highly informative book, I discovered that there are a few areas in life that required attention - absurdly simple areas, such as basics for caring for one and one's home and possessions. It astonishes how a dirty car, a non-existent filing system and a messy cloths closet can have such a negative affect on one's life. Thomas Leonard brings these apparently non-important basics to your attention and coaches in a friendly manner, gently instructing us to do something about it.

The text offers 28 strategies in 28 chapters, including numerous tests that help you to reflect on your current state or condition, and simple step-by-step guidelines to change your current condition for the better. The key notion in his strategy is to make oneself more attractive by living a fulfilling life. Rather than `strive' and `hard sell' your way to success, his method is more along the lines of taking the path of least resistance - that by being aware and sensitive to oneself and one's environment, you create an attitude of mind where living and success becomes almost effortless. His method more or less has a Zen quality to it - surrendering to the Tao and moving through life in a natural way. In other words, by attaining clarity of mind, one is more in a position to recognize opportunities when they present themselves, and because we have become more ourselves and in-flow with our environment, good things will happen. Put in other terms; remove the physical and emotional clutter in your life, thereby creating the space for success to occur.

It is impossible for a single self-help book to be the answer for everybody. Though Leonard has an approachable method covering general areas that most of us experience and have trouble with from time to time. If anything, it could well bring your attention to areas that you thought were under control and moving smoothly and are not. This book is worth having a look at...

5.0 out of 5 stars Will change the way you think about self improvement books, May 20, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've probably bought about 100 books in the self-improvement category in the last fifteen years. About ten of those books are ones that really changed my thinking and my life. This book is one of the ten.

The premise of this book is that success is a byproduct of your growth as a person. That by focusing on your physical, emotional, and spiritual health, you naturally become more attractive to yourself and others. And by being attractive, you naturally PULL success to you. However "impractical" this may sound, it really works. I seen it work in my own life and in the lives of others.

This is a very different approach to success if you believe that you have to fight and scrape to succeed. I used to feel success was a constant zero-sum battle and my success came at a great cost to my health, relationships, and peace of mind. In all honesty, the approach described in this book, not only works, but it works better than the old "success at any cost" philosophy. It does require some willingness to suspend judgement and try some things that feel uncomfortable but for me, it's been worth it.

The book also suggests plenty of practical steps you can do immediately to begin seeing results. Also check out related tools at Thomas Leonard's website. There's a lot of great stuff there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tony Robbins should have written this one!, December 8, 2001
By
This is a very impressive work! I've worked as a personal development trainer (Dale Carnegie and NLP) in the past and found this book to deliver more than it promises. You could read a ton of self-help books by a variety of well-known authors and easily not come away with half the high-quality material that is in this straight-forward book. I definitely think that this book should have sold much more and should be in every successful person's personal development library. I say that I wish that Tony Robbins had written this because he may have added a little more flair, stories, humor, and enjoyment to the writing. But as far as content is concerned, this one's got it. You couldn't go wrong buying this one. It's a gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Road map to Living, October 24, 2005
I have been presenting business & personal development workshops since 1987 focusing primarily on small business women and families. I only found Thomas Leonard because my girlfriend Nancy spoke so highly of him. Looked him up, purchased the book and realized I have used the many strategies he suggested for the workshops I conduct. I believe this book is the ONE that should be on every person list to purchase and apply. He offers step by step proven, simple practices to move your life forward and manage your living. This is the road map to peace, happiness, abundance and more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thomas Leonard is not for everyone, but..., November 19, 2003
If you can get through the first chapter on "selfishness," this book really does have a lot to offer. Using charged words like "become incredibly selfish" and absolutes like "tolerate nothing" was an integral part of Leonard's in-your-face, we-don't-have-time-for-you-not-to-get-this style. So many of us in the professional coaching industry have been touched by Leonard. We owe him a big debt of gratitude for making the profession of "coaching" the big opportunity it is for us today. This book is a good legacy to the man, as well as to what he thought was important for us to understand in our lives and in the lives of our clients.

Sure - where do I sign?? Nice idea - but most of us struggle to get there! Unhook from the future? Great idea - also hard to do!! Take care of yourself - elimnate delay - don't tolerate anything - all interesting ideas, all VERY difficult to accomplish!! I listened twice and found few practical applications or advice on the HOW of these methods. Lots of positive thinking, not a lot of reality-based suggestions!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Kids, don't try this at home, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
While I think much of what Leonard has to say is worthwhile and valid, this book is a poor substitute for a "personal coach" for two reasons:
(1) There's no reality check if you do it on your own. I knew a guy who decided that, at age 28, he was too young to be saddled with his heavy responsibilities when there was a whole world out there for him to explore, so he told his wife he wanted a divorce. He'd talked her out of pursuing her own career plans after college, and convinced her to become a full-time wife and mother, and now she was on her own with 3 kids to raise. But he was sure that he was practicing "positive selfishness"!
(2) Most of us don't need someone to tell us what we OUGHT to be doing, so much as an objective outsider who'll help us put it all into perspective and suggest areas in which we can make small, realistic changes that greatly improve our lives. I got tired just reading his "Extreme Self-Care" section, let alone trying to do everything he suggests! (It reminded me of that classic "Dilbert" cartoon in which Dogbert the counselor asks what the participants learned in his workshop, and Alice says, "I learned to listen with my heart. I understand Sanskrit. I got my ham radio license ... ")

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Practical Advice, July 20, 2001
By A Customer
When I began this book, I found it elementary, having worked with a coach for 3 years and done a great deal of work in the area of personal development. As I continued reading I began to "get it". The concept is that we all have the power to achieve our goals simplier than pursuing, by attracting. Well worth the purchase for students of coaching and any one who wants to attain more with less effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing!!!!, November 26, 2001

"aleta11" (Vancouver, Washington) - See all my reviews
I really felt this book was a breath of fresh air.......very well written.......easy to apply to everyday life. This is definitely a keeper. I actually found this book to be more enlightening than most of the "big " name authors of self help books that have been on all the Best seller lists for years.

This review is from: The 28 Laws of Attraction: Stop Chasing Success and Let It Chase You (Paperback)
Better than The Secret! This book summaries many books!

I read this book 3 times and still get amazed by the ideas. What I like most is the author's listing of many ways and examples to activate the law of attraction.

Forget the Secret! Here are the details!
