Enjoyable a la Pulp Fiction or Snatch,
By
This review is from: 29 Palms (DVD)
This movie is quite enjoyable and the characters are quirky and eccentric. The plot keeps your interest and you find yourself drawn into the drifter's world. You can feel his pain and long to see him move forward. The acting is first rate and I was particularly surprised by Chris O'Donnell's role as a hitman. I had to look twice before I realized it was him. There are many twists and the scenery is wonderful. I recently visited Twnetynine Palms on a trip to Joshua Tree Nat'l Park. While the town isn't depicted as it truly exists, the overall desert scnenery is right on target. So grab some popcorn and sit a spell in the desert of California.

29 Palms-Thriller Mystery Action Suspense with a Good Cast,
By Laurie "moviemailer" (Va. Beach, Va. United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 29 Palms (DVD)
29 Palms is a good movie worth renting or buying.29 Palms is a thrill-packed action suspense mystery filled with a good cast that includes: Bill Pullman,Chris O'Donnell,Michael Rapaport,Keith David,Michael Lerner, Rachel Leigh Cook,Jeremy Davies and Jon Polito. The main thing in this movie is that the main character doesn't know who to trust after he comes home to find his girlfriend being killed so he is on the run after he was the target of a hitman due to their belief that he is an undercover FBI agent. The only flaw in the film is that they don't state whether he was an undercover agent or not-perhaps this doesn't matter. This may be better to purchase or rent on dvd as the extra features could explain that question. There is not always a motive or reason so that could be the answer to that question but why was this particular man the subject of a hitman ? Why did the hitman record the verbal transaction asking for the proof of the hit when he picked up the bag of money ?Everything revolves around the hitman's stolen-then lost bag of money that has been reproduced into several identical bags that rotate around fooling everyone-except the one who planted the extra bags. The money is for the hit on the man who ran after finding his girlfriend murdered. We never know the main character's name as it's listed in the credits as "the drifter" played by Jeremy Davies. Bill Pullman as the bus station manager. Keith David as the local sheriff. Michael Rapaport as a corrupt policeman.Joe Polito as a security guard.Chris O'Donnell as an FBI agent hitman.Michael Lerner as the guy who orders the hit.Rachel Leigh Cook as the girl on the side of the road who's car is broken down. There are Native Americans in this as well who give good performances. This is a recommended thriller-mystery.

This movie is just for fun. We have lived in both the Quad Cities and 29 Palms so we thought we should own this. It's entertaining, but is no masterpiece. It goes well with beer and pizza.

WHO'S GOT THE BAG,
By Michael Butts (Berkeley Springs, WV USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: 29 Palms (DVD)
Quirky and potentially interesting crime movie that loses its fizzle after its first two thirds. Using a plot we've seen dozens of times before: a hitman's bag of loot is stolen by a frenetic security guard, who the hitman was able to shoot before he got hit in the head with said bag; security guard crashes his car and crooked cop steals the money; crooked cop mails the bag to a bus station in 29 Palms. The hitman's target happens to end up in 29 Palms after evading killers and he steals the bag from the whacked out bus clerk. Target picks up a girl who is having car trouble and she takes the bag too. Problem is the target has bought several like bags and who knows which one the money is in?
All of this would work fine, but by the end of the movie, we're given so many flashbacks that don't make any sense and we're left wondering what in the world happened in those final minutes. The talented cast includes Jeremy Davies as the target; Chris O'Donnell as the pretty inept hitman; Jon Polito as the security guard; Rachael Leigh Cook as the car trouble girl; Michael Rappaport as the dirty cop; Keith David as a marijuana smoking lawman, and a deliciously insane performance from Bill Pullman as the bus clerk. Started out with high expectations, but somewhere along the line, the wind knocked the 29 palms over!

poorly edited and poorly paced indie thriller,
By TheJukeboxLoser "darren" (jersey) - See all my reviews

in a sense since this was a straight to video production as far as visual wise it was surprisingly solid. But the intrigue ends there since the movie feels like it was left on the drawing board. The movie wallows in headachey camera edits and chrachters that are never draw out. The plot line feels familiar and rehashed. the shear confusion of the storyline and awkward charachters difuse any sort of interest in whats going on.The performaces are patciualrly poor by Chris Odonnell in faux cool mode and acting as hollow as ever. Jeremy Davies adds a slight bit of unabashed levity and understated acting though and Bill Pullman acts cracked out. But ultimately the experience is forgettable.

I bought this movie because Litefoot and Russell Means are in it. Their performances were exceptional. Lots of action and suspense.

great movie about an undercover cop who is being chased down by the mob because he has the guys bag of money. Chris O'Donnell and Jeremy Davies give forceful performances, a good story but brims to a hault somewhere in the middle and then picks up with its finale. other actors like Racheal Leigh Cook, Joe Polito and Litefoot(also a rapper) contribute supporting roles

Could this have been any worse?,
By "wyldwolf" (Honolulu, Hi USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 29 Palms (DVD)
Goodness... where can one start about how bad this movie is? I bought it blind, based off the name. I grew up in the real 29 Palms, and lets just say, the only part of the town that it "showed" was a bus stop. Which never existed. It portrays everyone there as... well... ignorant thieves. This movie jumps so much that I was almost lost, and thats a hard thing to accomplish. As soon as the film was over, I located the nearest trash can and threw it out. Save your money, dont buy it, and visit the city's actual website, that at least has more appeal and you can follow it easier than this movie.

a pulp fiction wannabe lousy movie,

This review is from: 29 Palms (DVD)
lousy script, acting, filming, directing. terrible faded color. trying very hard to be a cool noir but falling too short about nine yards. totally impossible and unbelievable plot. the shooting is worse than most of other bad movies i've ever watched. there's nothing to tell but waste of your time and money.
