Perfect Desk Phone,
By
This review is from: GE 29369GE1 Big Button Corded Desktop Phone with Call Waiting Caller ID and Speakerphone (Office Product)
This one has everything. Super large LIGHTED caller ID, volume control for handset, power adapter for the caller id, many many extras. Im usually sucked in by the 10.00 phones and they always end up in the garbage. I thought I would try this one. I almost didnt because of the 29.00 price but it is well worth it. This is not a cheap phone. Its even angled perfect for the desk. The speakerphone sounds great as well. I love it and will probably buy another for the other desk in the house.

I bought this phone for my elderly mother and it has many great features for her: easy to read large buttons, large caller id screen, easy volume controls. It should be the perfect phone for a person with sight limitations except that it has a very serious flaw that makes me recommend against buying it.
The hand set does not sit firmly in the base, making it very easy to hang up the phone and actually leave it off the hook. This has been a potential safety hazard for my mother and she had to stop using this phone to avoid going without phone service by not realizing that the phone was disconnected.

GE 29369GE1 Big Button Phone,

This is a rotten product in my opinion. I bought it particularly for the speakerphone feature, but I was very disappointed. It's not a duplex. It's a push to talk feature. The system trys to determine when you are finished talking, then switches to the other party so he can talk. But that often cuts you off before you finish speaking. Very poor device. I recommend you pay more money to get a duplex (2-way) speakerphone.

OK except.....,

I like the phone except for one REALLY BAD problem. The handset does not fit properly on the phone, it is too easy to incorrectly place the phone on hook (you think it is on hook, but it isn't). I have had the phone a couple of months, and this problem has rendered my phone line dead (no dial tone) about 10 times now. When my other phones don't work, I have to go put the handset of this phone back on properly. Never had this problem with any other phone.

Great Phone!,

I got to agree with the other reviewers. This is one of the best phones I ever had for my kitchen-the extra large LIGHTED caller id feature was the selling point for me. It does require you to plug it in, but you don't have to worry about batteries leaking or running out. The speaker part has adjustable volume, and the caller id itself has contrast adjustments, it lists how long you have been on the phone while you are on that call, and one of the best parts is, if you get multiple calls from the same phone number, it will list each call and time INDIVIDUALLY, not overlap them. Thinking about putting one in the bedroom so when someone calls at night you can see who it is without turning on the light. The only drawback is the phone doesn't sit in the cradle snuggly, so you will have to be a little more careful when you hang up. GREAT PHONE!

BEWARE - NEEDS ELECTRICAL OUTLET,
This review is from: GE 29369GE1 Big Button Corded Desktop Phone with Call Waiting Caller ID and Speakerphone (Office Product)
This is a fine phone. Unfortunately, none of the descriptions indicate that for the caller ID and speakerphone to work, you have to plug in an included electrical adapter to a nearby electrical outlet. (Only the very first Amazon comment mentioned an adapter). That's why it "needs no batteries". This also means that if the power is out, while the phone will work, the caller ID and and speakerphone will not. (Yes, logic should have told me that no batteries = electrical adapter, but I shouldn't have to resort to logic to "know" the basic features/requirements of the phone)
If that's not a problem for you, then it gets 5 stars. Because the manufacturer (nor Amazon) not only did not state this, but rather by its wording and emphasis on "no batteries" appears to me to be intentionally misleading us, it gets only 3 stars.

Position of the detachable bottom stand is CRUCIAL,
By
This review is from: GE 29369GE1 Big Button Corded Desktop Phone with Call Waiting Caller ID and Speakerphone (Office Product)
If you look on the back of the phone, the stand portion on the back of the phone can be detached and reversed. It is marked "THIS END UP FOR WALL USE" on one side, and marked "THIS END UP FOR DESK USE" on the other side. Correct placement of this detachable piece is crucial to provide the proper inclination for the handset to fit securely on the cradle. (i.e. for desktop use, the detachable stand covers the battery compartments and will look like the product picture shown on Amazon; for wallmount use, the detachable stand covers the model# & barcode sticker areas). When this is done, there is absolutely no chance of leaving the handset off hook since gravity pulls the handset down snugly on the base. It is also quite difficult to bump the handset off the base in these positions - it fits very securely on the hook. I'm 100% sure that the complaints regarding the "bad angle" for wall-mounting were due to the detachable bottom piece being mistakenly inserted in the "desktop" position, and that the complaints about the handset sliding off the hook when placed on a desk were due to the detachable bottom piece being mistakenly inserted in the "wall-mount" position.

Suggestion for those Stating "make sure receiver is on base",

I was reviewing this phone and plan on purchasing the product. My overall notation from the "reviews" was make sure the receiver/handset is on base correctly. Might I suggest turn phone over and reverse the base as to "wall mount". Here's what I mean, we are viewing and get the phone on "slant" position for desk, which makes the receiver sit slanted, all or most phones on the back the Plastic back reverses to a wall mount position. Reverse the slant, unsnap the back and turn it other way, it snaps in place. It will make the phone receiver sit flatter on phone and not slanted down.

Very disappointed,
This review is from: GE 29369GE1 Big Button Corded Desktop Phone with Call Waiting Caller ID and Speakerphone (Office Product)
Got this phone and was good for first 2-3 months. Then mouthpiece became inactive meaning others could not hear me talking. Talked to Thompson (the manufacturer for GE) and sent the phone, receipt etc per their instructions. 3 months up and still no action from from Thompson. Amazon was kind enough to intervene and refund me the full amount. I am trying to avoid GE phones if Thompson is the manufacturer.
