Ideal for small offices or busy roommates, the GE 29861GE2 is a completely digital answering system containing three mailboxes. The call-screening speaker allows you to answer only the calls you want to; you can even set the precise number of rings before the machine picks up. With 30 minutes of memory, you won't worry about running out of space, and you can easily set a time limit for individual messages. Each incoming message automatically receives a time-date stamp, and simple controls offer the options of listening to only the new messages or listening to every message, along with deleting, saving, or skipping. Remote access allows you to check in while at work or on vacation, and with the addition of a 9-volt battery, the machine is able to save messages even through a power outage.

The reason I bought this answering machine was so that I could delay for 6 rings before it would answer the phone. We need more time to get to the phone! It's great that it has multiple mailboxes also. There is one for me and one for my wife and one for people who don't know us (that's how we filter the junk messages!
If I could change two things I would:

1. I'd like a way to mount the machine on the wall. It is currently configured for desktop only.
2. The machines voice isn't always clear and understandable. I don't recommend this machine for those who have trouble hearing.

Other than those two things this is a great answering machine.

I debated between a three mailbox machine and a four mailbox machine but this one took my vote hands down. It's perfect for us, the set up is easy and we are able to retrieve messages from other locations at the touch of a button. The messages stay on the machine after we retrieve them in case we missed something. When we get home, there they are. It's perfect for families with 3 members, each can have their own security code to retrieve their messages. It works well with our caller id as well. I would recommend this GE Digital Answering Machine to everyone.

This is the one I have owned since the 90s..there was a model made in the early 90s which I still have to this day. At first I didnt like the 3 mailboxes. But if you just leave a regular message it will go into the mail mailbox...easy playback, easy to set the date/time.
The only feature I didnt like is that if the power goes off, which mine does you lose the messages so Im looking for an updated GE that has a power saver.
After all these years its been on 24 hours a day since the early 90s and now its 2007, thats about 15 years worth of no problems and anyone in the house can play it back. That is the great feature, easy to play, delete. GE always had good ideas for simple useage.
