The GE 29875GE2 is a completely digital answering system. The call-screening speaker allows you to answer only the calls you want to; you can even set the precise number of rings before the machine picks up. With 30 minutes of memory, you won't worry about running out of space, and you can easily set a time limit for individual messages. Each incoming message automatically receives a time-date stamp. Remote access allows you to check in while at work or on vacation. The memo function allows you to record voice messages for the other members of your household.

• Digital Answerer with up to 30 Minutes Record Time: Better reliability. No tapes or tape decks to break, jam or wear out. Digital microchip provides instant playback of messages.
• Voice Time/Day Stamp: Voice stamp recites the time and day each message was received.
• Digital Message Counter: Displays number of new messages received.
• Auto Disconnect: Outgoing announcement automatically stops and resets when any phone in the house is answered.
• Call Screening: Allows user to listen to caller leaving a message.
• Ring-Select Switch with Toll Saver (2-8, TS): Gives user a choice of how many rings before answerer takes a call. Toll saver delays answering if there are no messages, so if you are calling long distance to check messages, you can hang up and avoid paying for the call.
• Remote Function with Voice Menu: Voice menu system guides user through remote functions, so no pocket card is needed.

I was very pleased to see how easy this messaging system was to set up and I have not found the "tinniness" mentioned in some other reviews to be the case. It is a great price for a digital messaging system. For me, it replaced one with two tapes that I bought about 15 years ago for the same price ($19.99) that did not have the voice time and date stamp. It does not, however, offer the eight rings described ... but the five it does offer are an improvement over the four offered by my last machine. Also, whenever the phone is answered anywhere in the house, the machine stops taping, so it doesn't fill up your inbox with the sound of your voice. I love it!

I had the answering service offered by the local phone company for 5 years at a cost of $6 per month. Since retiring the number of calls has dropped dramatically and I needed a less expensive solution. This answering machine provides all of the functions I received via the phone company for the equivalent of 3-4 months service. Message recordings are clear, options are plentiful, and it is accessable remotely.
I can't understand why I paid the phone company so much money over the years. This device works fine as advertised.

The outgoing message that I tried to record sounded terrible, so I have to use the default outgoing message. To delete a message you hit the on/off button -- not very intuitive as sometimes it just shuts the machine off if your timing is not right. I've had it for over a year, it works fine, but I'm looking to replace it for something of better quality that's easier to use.
