4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound- one problem
This product is superb in sound quality, volume control, and comfort. I also love the extra battery feature. I am a life coach and work by phone, so I am on the phone a lot. I've had the phone over a year and am now having one problem. The headset is hardwired and suddenly I am finding that I have to crink it here or there as the sound cuts out. It would be wonderful...

1.0 out of 5 stars Battery life
We have had the phone for over two years (puts us in the minority). I will not try to tell stories about being an engineer or a sales consultant for large phone corporations. I will just say that I worked with electronics for over 37 ears. With that out of the way, here are the comments on this phone. SPEND...MORE and get a phone that will last for more than a year...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound- one problem, April 10, 2001

This product is superb in sound quality, volume control, and comfort. I also love the extra battery feature. I am a life coach and work by phone, so I am on the phone a lot. I've had the phone over a year and am now having one problem. The headset is hardwired and suddenly I am finding that I have to crink it here or there as the sound cuts out. It would be wonderful if the headset was not hardwired and I could just replace that. However, for the price- just buy another unit if this happens.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am *also* buying the same phone again!, June 29, 2001

Hands down, this is the best cordless headset telephone I have used. I work from home and am on the phone constantly. Like others have mentioned, the sound has started cutting out on my latest phone after about 9 months. I am shopping for my third phone, both my previous phones have "died" the same way with the sound cutting out. Of course, because the belt loop does not hold (I put mine in my pocket) I have dropped the phone many times and reeled it in with the cord. I'm sure this has contributed to the short life spans of both of my phones!

I have noticed that the price has been coming down on these a bit lately, yea! Very comfortable headset, excellent sound quality. Bell has recently come out with a similiar model, the headset looks almost exactly the same, but I have not tried it. I'm sticking with my GE.

I think this phone is the greatest thing and have used it for about three years. I bought one for my mom with caller id and she loved it and wants another (hers broke). Bought one for a friend last year and he loves it too!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great phone, August 4, 2001

I've owned this phone for several years now. I simply love it. Unfortunatly, they don't make a 2.4ghz version and I'm finding I need more range than the 900mhz can provide. Still, it's a very convienient design. Easy to use. Simply a great hands-free phone.

4.0 out of 5 stars yes, I am buying the same phone, again, April 25, 2001

GE's 29917 cordless headset phone is terrific. The sound is clear, it has good range, and is perfectly comfortable. If it has one drawback, it is that the hinge that attaches the clip to the battery pack is pretty flimsy and it just wont hold on to your belt. I have found wearing it in a shirt pocket works best. This is the best answer to "hands free" telephone use that I have found, and though they only last about a year I haven't found a better phone at twice the price. I am now ordering phone number three.

I will just say that I worked with electronics for over 37 ears. With that out of the way, here are the comments on this phone. SPEND...MORE and get a phone that will last for more than a year. Battery life is short, about 30 minutes. Be sure and let the batteries drain completely once a month or the recharge will be useless. Try to find a replacement battery. I did after emailing several companies. The model number of the battery doesn't even show up in search engines. The replacement battery is not made by the OEM.... The beltclip allows the phone to fall, (be sure and catch the phone or it will try to pull the hardwired cord out of the box). ] GE builds great locomotives, not phones.

4.0 out of 5 stars What happens after 2 years?, July 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: GE 29917 900 MHz Analog Cordless Headset Phone (White) (Office Product)
I have had this phone for about 2 years and it works great. The sound is reasonable and the volume control is a plus, along with the mute button.

I didn't like the little arm that supported the headset; it just made the hanging wire look bad. Then there is the extra battery - GREAT idea. Just that the spare is "dead" now. Started dying after about 6 months.

The cushion earpiece is sloooooowly disintegrating and cannot be replaced because everything is just "fixed". It would have been good if some components were detachable and could be replaced.

All in all, a great phone for the price. Now I just need to contemplate purchasing a new battery or another phone.

3.0 out of 5 stars I loved it, but now, it's garbage for me., June 3, 2003
This review is from: GE 29917 900 MHz Analog Cordless Headset Phone (White) (Office Product)
I have this phone, and have used it for conference calls and love the phone, but it has issues....

The positive items:
1. MUTE BUTTON!
2. Memory functions, so I can use it for my calling card for work.
3. The battery lasts a long time, and you get a spare with the phone.

The negative items:
1. I didn't have 'great' luck with interference with the phone when at a distance. I would guess that 75 feet is it's distance, max.
2. The belt clip broke early. I was warned of this from others.
3. The writing on the buttons wore off rather easy. The volume buttons and the mute button on my phone are blank now.
4. The cord to the headset has frayed, and now my headset is useless!! It isn't replaceable, and will have to be trashed. A perfectly good phone, but one little wire is broke, and now the whole phone is garbage.
5. The head clip broke, and had to be taped together within a month of it's purchase.

Overall I love the phone, but won't buy one again... I can get a better phone for less cost, that is built better....

5.0 out of 5 stars In this price range - tops, June 27, 2002
This review is from: GE 29917 900 MHz Analog Cordless Headset Phone (White) (Office Product)
I've had the same problem as others mentioned - headset connectors failed. However, this was after 1 and 1/2 years of daily use. Sound quality is good. Nothing else comes close in this price range. Try getting just a decent headset for this price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my idea of a cordless phone, December 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: GE 29917 900 MHz Analog Cordless Headset Phone (White) (Office Product)
The phone had been dropped just a couple of times & fell off the waist of my pants and after a week since the purchase the microphone of the headset stopped working. The unfortunate thing is we cannot change just the headset we would have to replace the whole phone altogether. I went to the GE website and could not find the phone or replacement parts. I will never purchase this phone again. I ended up ordering a different brand with the option to replace just the headset, if need be.
