Covers the basics
I took a digital imaging class that involved reading this cook, and writing critiques on works, using the elements and principles of design as outlined in the book. That book got dogeared! The class involved some concepts of Art that I hadn't been exposed to, due to not being educated in the fine Arts. This book filled in many gaps.

When they say "basics" they mean BASICS
Bought this book for a graphics design class and totally regret it because it's not useful what so ever. Maybe it's written with the laymen in mind because other than industry lingo, fluff, and pretty pictures as examples, there's really not much content. No bold statements or assertions made in the realm of design. Save your money.

This book is great. I underline and highlight in it constantly. It has great examples that reinforce the text and is easy to read and understand. I am a beginning designer and this book really helped me out. I know that I will refer back to it often because design principles are timeless.
