I elected to avoid paying a security company and decided instead to install a 2GIG system myself. Ordering everything I needed and doing it myself ended up saving me roughly 50% on the install and another 50% on the ongoing monitoring. The 2-GIG panel was the hardest to install and configure. It required that I read over 40 pages of installation and configuration information. Overall, everything worked and was mostly very clear (I did have to contact 2-GIG to resolve 3 questions). To date, everything is working great.

I had a 10 year old, wired alarm system, no longer monitored, and when it recently decided to start beeping at me every night at 11:45 with no way to make it stop, I had to replace it. Since my needs are pretty simple, I didn't want to get involved with the big companies, I looked into 2GIG as a possible replacement. It looked like I could use their 2gig TAKE Switch Wireless Takeover Module to use all of the existing wired contacts and put that to work for me in the new wireless system.

Before I made the decision, I went to the 2GIG site and called Linear, to see if I could use this system strictly to have it beep for zone openings if I desired. I spoke to a very pleasant and helpful employee, who informed me that while the system is designed to be installed by dealers, yes, it should be possible to install it and use it in that way. So I bought this control panel and the takeover module, and today I installed them.

I started by checking out some YouTube videos on installation and programming for the system, which were very helpful. There's one that's about an hour long that's a full training session on the entire system. This control panel has a touch screen, and the system is easy to configure. I will say, the video walk through I found made it super easy, but the same information is available to read.

My system is 6 zones (you can have up to eight on one panel, plus you can link panels to create additional zones, if you so desire). This system allows for two wired zones in addition to the wireless ones.

You can choose from a variety of chimes and/or voice info when a zone is opened, which is handy in certain situations.

Perfect for a simple smarthome hub. Currently using this with 2 Zwave outlets, alarm sensors, two smart thermostats and soon to be locks on the doors.
