I agree with the prior posting. Make sure your input device (DVD)is a progressive scan device. If not, this device will not work at all. The output is maximum 720p, so if you do have a progressive scan device and use this interface, you will not see much of a difference. It didn't work for me for the stated reasons.

This device works very well as advertised. You need to make sure before purchase that your monitor meets the resolution range requirements and your component video source meets the resolution requirements and has progressive video. You probably want to visit the manufacturer's web site and check what these are; the installation manual is available on-line there. Most DVD recorders and players made in the last few years that have an HDMI output also have progressive video available for the component video outputs. But, in the case of a DVD recorder, you may have to actually find out how to turn it on (whereas most players do that automatically). What we wanted to do was set up a DVD recorder back where our computer is with its cable feed split off the cable feeding our computer's cable modem. That way we could set up to record, review, and edit new recordings outside of the Family Room where our "big screen" TV was without interfering with someone else in the family enjoying a playback or a live program. We didn't need a TV tuner because that was already built into the DVD recorder. We just needed to show the video on our computer monitor when we were setting the recorder up or editing its recordings. Our monitor is a pretty simple, economical, three year old eMachines 17" flat panel display but with this converter switch it shows some really clear video. And the audio also comes through on the computer speakers quite clearly. This product has a built-in switch to switch the video and audio from the computer to the component video source, which was the advantage it had over an otherwise similar and well rated product sold by Amazon.com. Just make sure you don't put it too close to your computer or your cable modem or you may pick up some computer noise on the video image from your DVD player or recorder.
