At&t sent out people a bunch of times only after threatening that I might get charged.

I'll rate to NO Zero or Half star if it has Conclusion: - 2wire IS bad product ( no mater what model) - Why they DO NOT improve ?

This was a pointless purchase, the modem did not work with my AT&T connection so I just ditched AT&T and now I use Earthlink.

I'm a Uverse tech and just want to let buyers know that AT&T's system doesn't allow the gateway to be changed without an employee telling the system to look for a new gateway. AT&T doesn't sell the gateway to third parties to sell either. Once a gateway is used on an account it can't be used on another until its sent to a warehouse where it becomes a refurb unit. I love Amazon and do most of my shopping from Amazon but this product is misleading.

This is a horrible router/modem. I am a computer tech and often work out of my home office. I host my own servers and need static IP addresses to do so. I previously had standard DSL and had no problems doing this. I moved back in August and was required to move to U-Verse. Fine, faster speeds, but I was forced to purchase this piece of crap from AT&T. I, once again, had static IP addresses and attempted to configure them in the 2Wire and could not figure it out. I was attempting to use my own enterprise class router/firewall behind the 2Wire and wanted my router/firewall to handle the address translation. After some Google-fu and some calls to tech support, I found I was not able to. The reason is that the 2Wire assumes you only want one IP address assigned per MAC address. Since the enterprise router/firewall uses the same MAC address for all traffic exiting from it, the 2Wire assumed it was all coming from a single system and would, therefore, ignore traffic coming from any of my other IP addresses. There is no way to turn off and I was told there is not a business class router available for U-Verse. Not only am I paying more for U-Verse, I am also getting less functionality with this 2Wire.

I have this gateway (router + modem in one), and it worked perfectly until the warranty ran out. Now it drops wireless regularly. Finally talked AT&T into replacing it free (they wanted to charge and I threatened to go to Comcast)--after interminable troubleshooting that included channel changes, etc.. The new one will be here soon. I have replaced 2wire routers for wireless problems twice already, at 2 homes of friends. This is the last.

Check around the web: Tech types hate 2wire. If you must stay with AT&T, see if you can get a basic modem that they support (often Motorola), and add a decent router from a trusted company (Linksys, Netgear, etc.--check reviews). It is also apparently possible to use this rig in modem-only mode, and add a router. I may have to try this if I still have problems--or just switch ISPs. AT&T should provide better equipment.

The first 2wire 2700 model lost internet frequently, ask for help from ATT support group, they (ATT support) said my phone lines in my house is BAD,..then ask me they will send the tech come to my house w/ charge. Forget it, I buy Actiontec from Amazon to replace 2wire, it works very well ~3 years. Then ATT ask me to switch ATT Uver w/ 2wire 3800 ( new Model works very well as they said) for free and lower monthly payment. The first 3800 model drops connection always after 6 months, just replace another w/ new 3800 few weeks ago.
I'll rate to NO Zero or Half star if it has
Conclusion:
- 2wire IS bad product ( no mater what model)
- Why they DO NOT improve ? 2700 => 3800 ( I see a lot feedback from customers)
- Why ATT still keep 2wire, a lot better products on the market?

I have the 2Wire 3800gv-b installed at two locations. One for seven months and one for two years. The one that is seven months old has worked flawlessly. The two year old at 99.9%. It has rebooted twice, but my internet speed is awesome and stable. This has been the best gateway I have owned. I use it for netflix, VOIP, and at one location - TV. Maybe I'm lucky!

Was hesitant on buying this without the original box and manuals. Technician came and installed the system without any problems. It did have to update quite a bit of information but does works flawlessly. I have always had good luck with all my 2 Wire products. Arrived within a week of ordering. Glad to have made this purchase so I don't have to pay AT&T's $4.00 monthly equipment rental fee that they don't seem to mention if you order U-Verse service over the phone.

It was deceptive at least. The modem I ordered was not what I received and was not properly packed. When they came to install the uverse they advised me this was not the proper equipment.
