4.0 out of 5 stars
None too shabby, January 14, 2008
This review is from: 2k7 Instrumentals (Audio CD)
For the record, this is not some of Dan the Automator's finest work, but relative to everything else out there it's still pretty damn good.
Personally, I've never met anyone who buys instrumental albums like this one and just sits there attentively listening to them, but I do know a lot of people who (like myself) find them to be invaluable while writing term papers, reading, and etc (any time you want to have a beat to keep your head bobbing without having lyrics cloud your thoughts). For this purpose, this album is more than adequate (the only better cds of this ilk that I've found are MF Doom's numerous Special Herbs compilations), so I think a 4 star rating is appropriate.
Some of the beats are a little grating for my tastes (particularly track one), while some are admittedly awkward without vocal accompaniment, but the vast majority of these tracks are just right: very nice to have playing in the background, but not so engrossing that you can't get anything accomplished while listening to them.
