Editorial Reviews

The 2nd Armored Division, also known as "Hell on Wheels", was one of the first follow up American Armored Divisions used in the liberation of France in early July. The division would land in the Omaha Beach sector and quickly move to support the 101st Airborne in the Battle for Carentan. The contents of this video show the action as was recorded by the 165th and 166th Signal Photo Companies, during this historic operation. The footage in this video is intended to be strictly that of the 2nd Armored Division and only shows other unit footage when two or more units are intertwined. This video contains footage covering the time from June 2, 1944, when the division was still in England prior to leaving, to August 16,1944 as the 2nd Armored reaches the town of Barenton, France. Images included on this research video are soldiers and tanks of the 2nd Armored Division moving to English ports to load transports prior to leaving for invasion. Tanks of the 2nd unload from LSTs on to Omaha Beach. Tanks move up and support the attack on Carentan. The 66th Armored march German POWs. Troops of the 2nd Armored move in half-tracks and fight with men of the 67th Armored in the breakout of "Operation Cobra". MPs of the 2nd guard POWs at Notre Dame Cenilly. Finally troops of the 41st Inf. Observe artillery fire near Barenton. Enjoy these close up shots of equipment, vehicles, weapons, uniforms, helmet markings, and of the faces of the men themselves on these candid reels of history.
