I bought these to make things easier on myself making a bench & railing on the deck I built this fall. I'm happy with the way it came out. The bench looks great & is pretty sturdy, BUT, I changed out almost all the included hardware as it was not suitable for outdoor use or pressure treated lumber. Treated lumber is very corrosive to fasteners which is why speacially coated, hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel screws, bolts, nuts, washers & nails should be used on decks. The hardware in these kits was regular zinc coated stuff that would begin to rust & break down very quickly. Corroded fastners on a deck is a dangerous situation. You can take the bag of hardware to a store and tell them you need the same hardware, but for use on a deck. Except the Lag Screws, because:
The other major problem is that the lag screws included to hold the bracket to the deck are WAY too short. They don't penetrate (common) 5/4" decking, so the most important connection point from bracket to deck is just screwed into a deck board and not into any strong structural member. Not the way to anchor a railing & bench. I think the reason for the short lags is that the spot where the lags go is under that angled plastic brace you see running across the middle of the bracket, so there's very little room to get a longer lag screwed in there. It's about impossible with a ratchet or drill/driver. The solution is to switch the lag screws for some lags that are both suitable for use in pressure treated lumber and long enough to penetrate the bracket, decking and well into a joist or some blocking below. I used coated 3 1/2" lags. You can start them as far as possible with a drill, then you need to switch to an open-end or box-end wrench to (very slowly & tediously) drive the lags down about 1/8'th turn at a time.

The Deckmate Bench Bracket is easy to install, comes with all the hardware and is sturdy if you have the recommended deck design. The one issue requires a solid front surface board, not only the deck boards. My deck had a trim piece around which did not make the bracket as secure as it could be. The bench had some wobble after building it. Also you need a bracket at least every 24" (maybe 20") which brings the price up quickly. I ended up with a corner bench which helped with stability. In general, these brackets make for a quick project and are adequate for most bench products. Don't try and use less than the recommended amount or you bench will not be strong enough.

Read other reviews before purchasing (thanks for those who came before me). Key things I found...

1. Definitely replace the hardware if you are building outside with galvanized materials where possible. Will last.
2. Keep to the directions and recommendations on spacing - distance from end and between supports during bench run.
3. Don't be surprised if there is some "wobble" until you finish tying everything together. I was paying a lot of attention to wanting to make sure this didn't fall off the side of the deck with grandkids on it!
4. Even with the extra attention to wobble. I reinforced hardware to bolts vs. lags into the deck surface. Also put a board at base of the front and used brackets to secure to deck. Second probably wasn't needed, but again...not taking any risk.

I like that you can basically customize your board layout. Good recommendation in the directions, but I used smaller spacing and move boards on back rest.

I have since added railing to tie into my setup and the compliments are rolling in. Great solution, just some things for folks to consider as they go.

These brackets make building a nice looking, functional bench seat easy. After reading some reviews I was a little concerned with the bench seating feeling weak once assembled but this is not the case at all. When the brackets are installed according to the directions they make a very solid seating area. I would recommend these to anyone that wants permanent bench seating built-in.

I am disappointed in the hardware, most of which I had to replace with hardware designed for use with PT lumber.
My bench has a 60 degree turn in the middle of it so I made test cuts on scrap wood before making any cuts in the final lumber so I could get the angles correct. I'm glad I did because the angle of the back was actually 14 degrees but the directions specified it as 12 degrees.

Purchased 4 sets of these to add on ~12 feet of seating on to our new back deck.

Instructions were great, they were easy to assemble, and it came out great !

I used the screws and nuts and bolts the kits came with, I don't see them as being any sort of issue

This is the second set of brackets that I have purchased. First set I installed on my deck and the second set a builder installed for me on my sons deck. The builder raved about the ease of application and how sturdy the deck seating was. Would highly recommend

I just installed these on a pool deck to make 2 corner benches. My low rating is based on the problems I encountered along the way:
1. The 2 1/2" hex bolts are not long enough to install as instructed. There is no way to fit the flat washer, locking washer and nut on the bolt, it is just too short.
2. There are 2 measurements given for the length of the long side of the upright 2 x 4 (41" and 40"), they are both wrong. It should be 39.5".
3. The angle provided for the cut on the upright is wrong. It is closer to 14 degrees.
4. They don't indicate that there is a compound mitre required for the inside cut of the kickplate 2x4s when installing in a corner. It is approximately 3 degrees.

As others have mentioned, the quality of the screws was also a little disspointing. Many have used galvantized instead, I used coated deck screws for the backrest 2x4s as they looked better on the cedar wood anyway.
