4.0 out of 5 stars worked well
I needed two ten foot benches to fill an area on my patio. I purchased 3 sets of bench ends and used 3 bench ends per bench, 1 on each end and 1 in the middle. It worked really well. The product specifies to use 2 x 4's for bench seat, back and supports but I used 5/4" cedar decking for the seat and back and used 2 x 4's for the supports. This is a very reasonable cost...

3.0 out of 5 stars My homemade chair.
I think this item is a good idea. All the more reason I bought it. But it was hard to line up the wood in the right place and after it chair was done oneone wanted to sit on it. I feel it was a waste. Now the item to make a table would be a better idea.

Very easy home project. All you need is the 2x4 wood. This chair/bench can be made up to 6' in length. Screws are included. The instructions are simple.

If you look above at the images, you'll see the red bench I made. The color is "Mickey's Pants", which contrasts nicely with the green plastic.

They also added cupholders to the arms. A nice touch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome product, August 31, 2007

This is the second set of bench ends we have purchased as we absolutely love them. They are easy to assemble - we used pressure treated wood both times and the ends are very strong and durable. Our bench remains outside uncovered all year long. Highly recommend this product.

Very satisfied with the product. Wanted the benches for a fishing pier at the coast. Easy to put together and sturdy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent bench once completed; parts need improvement, July 24, 2009
This review is from: 2x4basics AnySize Chair or Bench Ends, Green (Lawn & Patio)
If you want a cheap, DIY bench, this product is probably the best out there. I wanted a bench for my backyard, but didn't have the money or willingness to spend $150+ for a pre-made one. After deciding I could make my own, I did some research and found this product.

I finished assembling it today for the total cost of about $70: $45 for bench kit, $25 in lumber (your local store may be cheaper than mine in NYC).

What's In The Box
- 2 heavy-duty dark green plastic end-pieces
- 38 screws (about 1.5" long)

What You Need
- nine 2x4 planks, up to 6 ft long
- electric screwdriver
- tape measure (optional)

The bench can be made up to 6 feet long, not 8. At 6 ft, it is very sturdy and strong. I used copper azole treated pine from Home Depot.

The box comes with a huge bag of screws! Don't try to assemble this bench without a motorized screwdriver. 4 screws hold each plank in place, except the back leg base plank, which uses 6. This means all the boards are secured very tightly in place and stable.

Assembly is very easy because the pieces are all notched. Just align the wood to them and drill through. It took me over an hour to screw them all in because of the awkward angle required for half of them and me being super fussy about alignment. A more experienced craftsman can probably finish in 30 mins, but this brings me to a very important point.

The pieces are not mirrored. They are simply 2 pieces with all the notches facing the same way on each piece. It is very easy to screw in when the notches face out, but the notches are not flipped around on the other leg. Where this becomes a problem is the underside. The screwdriver has to be tilted at an awkward angle for insertion. They go in at a diagonal vs being flush against the wood. Flush screw heads are better for weight and pressure distribution.

The arms each have a depression and function as a cup holder, though they look too shallow to be able to keep a cup in place.

All in all, a very good, strong bench that could be improved upon on the parts design side, but worth the effort to assemble. It's natural looking and very comfortable to sit on. It is pliable and has good give so my bony butt doesn't hurt (unlike the Strathwood All-Weather Hardwood 3-Seater Bench I bought previously from Amazon.

Mine is long enough to lie down on and look up at the stars, and maybe even sleep on, like a hobo. The arm rests are high and let me stick my arms and legs through to stretch out and relax. I'm looking forward to enjoying the evening breeze this summer with this bench.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bench Kit, July 14, 2009

I first purchased the bench kit while living in Alaska and was extremely pleased with the quality and durability of the bench. Alaska winters get 30 to 50 degrees below zero for extended periods of time and the plastic never became brittle or had any problems. When we decided to place two benches at our new home in Tennessee we wanted the same kit, but they were unavailable locally. We found them on Amazon and purchased them and are again well pleased. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Bought these for our community park, it's been about a year and they still look great which is saying a lot as we're in Arizona and they are holding up so great in this harsh weather.

We ordered this bench because my parents have the same thing. We found it easy to put together, and very versatile. It is now our new "laughing place". We spend most evenings sitting on our new bench on our porch watching the sunset or chatting with neighbors. The quality is good, the instructions are clear, and I would recommend it highly.

I have a large property with walking paths and have tried many different benches at strategic places. These benches must be tough and withstand the weather. This is the first bench I ever tried that I don't have to totally refurbish every few months.

It's also comfortable. I cut the 2X4's at 5 feet and it's sturdy. And there's a cup holder on each side that fits a water bottle perfectly.
