Easy-to-Assemble, Customizable Shelving System
ShelfLinks allow you to build strong, custom-sized shelves by just adding 2x4 lumber (not included). Construct a great-looking entertainment center on the cheap or quickly put up shelving in your dorm room or garage. Anywhere you need a custom shelving solution, ShelfLinks make it happen in a fast, affordable way and provide a great alternative to flimsy, one-size-only plastic and metal shelving units.

Featuring easy-to-follow assembly instructions, ShelfLinks are as simple to put together as building blocks. First, cut your 2x4s to the length you choose. Next, attach four 2x4s to the top of the ShelfLinks to make your storage surface(s). You then insert four more 2x4s through the patented apertures to make the legs of your shelf unit. Secure all with the included screws. It's that simple! The only tools required are a powered screwdriver and saw. And you won't have to worry about miters or angles--only straight, 90-degree cuts are required.

Strong, Durable Construction Holds up to 1,000 Pounds
ShelfLinks are built to last. They're constructed of heavy-gauge structural resin--once joined with 2x4s, each shelf can support spans up to 8.0 feet (2.4 meters) and can hold up to 1,000 pounds (400 kilograms). Finished shelf depth is 16 inches (40 centimeters)--plenty of room to safely house a host of items, from school books and DVD collections to tools and construction materials.

This kit is backed by a lifetime warranty.

About Finley Products Inc: Creating Customizable Storage and Furniture

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, cheap, and extremely strong, February 9, 2005

Very strong plastic composite pieces. You definitly need a power saw (miter, table, circular) and an electric drill (about 60 screws that need to go into raw wood). Most efficent build is with just 8 2x4 studs, at least 8'. For a 5.5' ~ 6' shelf, cut 4 pieces of lumber off at 29.5", what is left are the 4 frame lumbers 5'+ and the 4 shorter shelf pieces for the lower 2 shelves. The other 8 pieces cut at exactly 3'.

For $40 (with new wood) I built my first shelf, which I loaded w/ 1,500 lbs of granite, marble, and porceline tile for my next bathroom rip out. NO problem w/ the weight, could easily double that.

I bought 2 more of these kits and the workbench kit (will review that after receiving and assembling).

Width issue is not a concern, I am going to make a 6'x6', the shelves are 4 2x4 studs, no chance of bowing at long lenght.

Understand another reviewer's concerns about the mounts not fitting snuggly, but that is a well thought out plus. You can use scap lumber, which is often bowed due to moisture issues. Plus you do not have to fight to insert the last screws.

To the manufacurer, I would suggest dark colored or black screws and not the shinny silver ones. With stained wood this could be attractive enough for a dorm room or a utility room.

Most important the screws provided are decent grade, have not had one strip off yet, and they provide extras.

Simple and practical product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Need more than a saw and a screwdriver, May 13, 2004

This is a great product. You can build these shelves with just a saw and a screwdriver, BUT you better have a lot of strength in that screw driving arm, a great eye for right angles, and a lot of time if you plan to cut all of those two-by-fours with a hand saw. I suggest that optimal tools for the job are: tape measure, angle, level, circular saw, and power drill with a phillips head or a power screwdriver.

Instead of buying off the shelf units that may or may not fit the space intended, and which cost substantially more, you can build customized shelves that fit the space perfectly. If you live in an urban area where storage space is tight and getting the most out of every square foot is important, then this product can be useful. I buy the cheapest two-by-fours available and use the shelves for storage in my basement. Note: the shelves are 16" deep.

5.0 out of 5 stars HOW EASY IS THIS?!, January 3, 2006

My wife bought me the shelf kit for Christmas from my Amazon wish list. I just put it together this weekend and had a blast doing it! I built it 4' wide by 6' foot tall. The whole thing ended up costing about twenty five bucks in additional lumber. I submitted a customer photo of the finished product. The instructions were great to me because they left a little room for you to make changes in the design if you want or need to. If you must have rigid step by step instructions from beginning to end, you may have a little trouble. The end result was a very sturdy shelf that I feel is as strong and much larger that what I could have purchased anywhere else.
