5.0 out of 5 stars Great score!, February 8, 2008
This review is from: 3:10 to Yuma (Audio CD)
The music really complements the film. It never overwhelms the scenes but helps it along . You can hear the train slowly coming into focus. The music almost becomes the Train rather than the actual engine, especially towards the end. I've watched the film three times and wasn't fully aware of the score because it is so integrated with the action yet, when listening to it alone, it is very evocative of the film and enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can Music Feel Like A Ghost-town?!, August 24, 2008

This review is from: 3:10 to Yuma (Audio CD)
This really seems to, and it's an interesting effect. I agree that the score for this movie was excellent at complimenting the tense dusty minimalist feel of the movie. The movie and score are both reminiscent of the dry and gritty old "Spaghetti Westerns". But there's also something unique about the music here, to which I also agree with other reviews that it doesn't rehash the usual Western genre score techniques at all. It mirrors the intensity and loneliness that the movie emits very well, and allows you to recall that, while listening to the CD. For a remake, the movie turned out very well, and the eerie ghost-town-jangly-spurs feel of the score gets a lot of the credit for that. You can almost imagine the hot dry desert wind blowing on your back while it's playing, no kidding.

5.0 out of 5 stars An inteligent score for an inteligent film, February 24, 2008
This review is from: 3:10 to Yuma (Audio CD)
When I watched "3.10 to Yuma", I couldn't stop thinking how well the score captures the ambience of the film, both in action scenes and in the more intimate scenes. I wondered how the music would sound on its own, and I was pleasently surprised. Marco beltrami managed to present a perfect balance between old and modern, intimacy and action, western and mainstream. It takes a great inteligence and a great heart to achieve that, and the result is just a delicacy for the ears. its fresh and stylish, yet very emotional.
Very, very recommended, especialy for those who are tired of those mainstream, predictable hollywood scores.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh, Morricone-O, April 8, 2009

This review is from: 3:10 to Yuma (Audio CD)
Marco Beltrami has been toiling in the soundtrack fields for well over a decade, usually writing music in the heavy brooding mode of the Scream series (with more than a tip of the axe to Howard Shore's Silence of the Lambs). So his score for 3:10 to Yuma comes as a amazing surprise: it's taut as a guitar string, spare as a lone rider in the desert, and as potent as a shotgun blast to the head, when it needs to be. It recalls the spaghetti western music of Morricone without copying it---call it a post-Leone western score. In the movie or on your stereo it's a straight-up, riveting listen. And the orchestration is so unique the filmmakers even put a mini-doc in the 3:10 to Yuma (Widescreen Edition) DVD special features.

An excellent soundtrack to a good movie. It really captures the feel of the western genera, albeit the length of the tracks are short it still makes a good companion to the film or for those who love the nostalgic feeling of western movies through music.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3:10 and Better, March 15, 2010

This is the soundtrack to the movie 3:10 to Yuma, and it is a beautifully done sountrack and I love it very much. You can hear the entire movie and your favorite parts throughout the playing of this CD, I truly loved the end of the movie and it's music there and it gives you such a feeling of what an amazing job the farmer did in raising his son that you want to weep every time you think of what that young man has to do now after the movie leaves you, and he must take his father's body home to a wife who will be devastated and run the farm and work so very hard, and how much this entire farm will forever be in lasting memory of the Farmer... and in what he did to try and save and in the end how getting to know someone can change how you really feel about them and what they have done with their lives if you know their circumstances. The music score to this movie was well suited to it. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful movie music, August 31, 2009
By
This review is from: 3:10 to Yuma (Audio CD)
I love the movie and have seen it about 10 times on my movie channels. The music helps make the movie be as exciting and insightful as it is, reflecting the emotions and actions perfectly. The movie and music make me want to go live in the wild west and be a cowboy...well, maybe a cowgirl. The CD on its own is just as inspiring and I listen to it almost every day. My two cats are getting sick of it, I think.

Not only is the music beautiful, it also tells the story very well. The gradual build-up of the theme is wonderful, and creates some nice intensity near the end. I rank this right up there with Conan the Barbarian (NOT the Destroyer) in being great to listen to on its own, while fitting the movie like a glove.
