3.0 out of 5 stars Not a Loupe, Just a Magnifier., March 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 3.2"X2.6" PRINTER;S MAGNIFIER:MG-07535 (Misc.)
This item was mis-identified by the seller as a Loupe. It is not, it is a stand magnifier. The manufacturer (Hawk), does not claim it is a Loupe. The difference is, when you are looking at an item, say a map, with the magnifier right down on the surface, your eye must be 6-8" away from the lens to achieve focus, whereas a loupe is designed to be used with your eye very close to the optic. Alternately, you can hold this up to your eye, but the object would be in focus 6 or 8" away from the base of the stand, thereby defeating the purpose of the stand.

Other than that, it seems OK. It actually has a glass lens, but only a single element, the rest of the magnifier is plastic. Because of the large lens, it is (top)heavy.

I wish the seller would properly describe this item, because, if you are looking for a loupe, this isn't it.
If you are looking for a CHEAP stand magnifier, this may work for you, just don't expect great optical quality.
