4.0 out of 5 stars "Fascinating, Captain." -Mr. Spock
Definately one of the cooler desk toys you can own. Will leviate for weeks, months or even years if left undisturbed.

Strong vibrations may cause it to stick to the top. This really isn't a problem as you simply readjust it. But one time I didn't notice and was left that way for hours. It became pretty hot and I had to unplug it to cool off before it would...

3.0 out of 5 stars Floating globe
The globe works as advertised.
A negative is the top sphere is attached only with some thin plastic.
I had one fall over and break at the thin plastic.
When I glued it back together, it did not work right, so I bought a new one.

Definately one of the cooler desk toys you can own. Will leviate for weeks, months or even years if left undisturbed.

Strong vibrations may cause it to stick to the top. This really isn't a problem as you simply readjust it. But one time I didn't notice and was left that way for hours. It became pretty hot and I had to unplug it to cool off before it would levitate again.

A few times when the power browned out, the globe dropped and stuck to the base, which is not a problem, even when the power returns. Lover's of science and gadgets will love it.

Using a soda straw, you can blow a stream of air on the side of the globe and start it spinning. It will spin a good long time before it finally slows down and stops. Sometimes 15 or 20 minutes.

I'm dying to drop an ant on it watch it go crazy looking for a way off. {;-D Don't put 2 or more, they been known to make bridges with their bodies. Again, the ant may just drop off the bottom.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cool-looking "toy", November 24, 2011
This review is from: 3.5" Floating Globe - Magnetic Levitating Globe (Office Product)
The Floating Globe is not really a toy as it can be used as a cool decoration of your desk at work or perhaps the living room at home. You will have fun trying to make the globe levitate, but, warning: getting there can be somewhat frustrating as it takes multiple attempts. Sometimes you get lucky and can do it after the first try. However, that doesn't happen very often. Another downside is that the top magnet gets very hot after a while and turning the whole device off is recommended at that time. It was lots of fun in the beginning, but I got tired of it pretty quickly and it's now just sitting in the back of my closet. Buy this if you want to give someone a cool gift.

3.0 out of 5 stars a cool desk gadget, January 5, 2011

My husband admired a similar product in a National Geographic catalog for a much higher price. Be forewarned, the globe is small- 3.5 inches- so it is not easily used as a real globe without a magnifying glass. The base is plastic- not wood as stated in the description. It is difficult to balance the globe between the top and bottom magnets and will take practice if it gets bumped and needs to be re-set. For the price, it is a cool gadget. This one is NOT the one that rotates (although when the ceiling fan was on it did rotate somewhat.) My hubby likes this but to me it would just clutter my desk and be one more thing I'd have to move to clean up.
