The product description is inaccurate. I selected it because the original iPhone has a recessed headphone jack, unlike later models. This causes a problem for third-party headphone plugs, which are too wide for the narrow recessed area which leads to the jack.

Because this item DOES NOT FIT in this narrow opening, I was unable to use it. My time and money were wasted on this product. I cannot use my third-party headphones with my iPhone. I must use the poor-quality Apple earbuds, or buy another adapter which actually works.

If it had been accurately described, I would not have purchased it!

When I updated my iPhone 3G S case from a simple rubber case to a Speck Products CandyShell Case for iPhone 3G, 3G S (Black/Gray), my 3rd party headphones would no longer fit tightly into the iPhone jack as the opening in the Speck case was too small for the plug. This adapter solves that problem perfectly due to the very narrow plug on the male end.

The connections on both ends of the adapter are very snug.

Thus far I have noticed no negative affects from using this adapter. I have experienced no sound drop-outs or distortions of any kind. My only issue is that when I remove the adapter from iPhone, I do get a rather loud pop through my speakers, even if nothing is playing at the time. But, that is a minor issue for sure.

Given the VERY inexpensive price for this adapter (a similar adapter at RadioShack cost me $9.99) it is cheap enough to replace a couple times a year without too much complaint... And, despite its low cost, it doesn't feel cheap at all. Highly recommended.

Description says it carries the microphone signal. Description also says it has a Stereo Socket. These are contradictory statements: Stereo + mic requires a 4 pole plug and Stereo only uses a 3 pole plug. Can't both be true.

I bought the black version, Headphone Adapter for Apple iPhone Recessed Jack, 3.5mm Male Female Extension Plug - Black trusting in the description that it would carry the mic signal into my 1st gen iPhone. Turns out the Stereo Socket description must be correct because it will not carry the mic signal into the iPhone.

And to boot, the plug molding is TOO WIDE, DOES NOT FIT into the recessed jack of my 1st gen iPhone. Only after paring it down with a knife, did I find out that it didn't even carry the mic signal.

MediaMart sells another adaptor, Headphone Adapter for Apple iPhone Recessed Jack, 3.5mm Male Female Extension Plug - Black with identical item name. It's tech description is almost identical except it says that it has 4 pole connectors at both ends. Assuming that description is correct, I would have bought that product if the two products had been correctly described.

I bought this because it shows the third ring on the plug in the picture, I assumed it would be an extension for a hard to access plug, but its not. It is a stereo adapter, that takes away remote (or credit card reader access) support. I really bought these mainly to use with a square up reader and my ipad which is covered in an otterbox defender case, like most cases it interferes with all but the smallest of headphone plugs, the only plug I have seen fit is the apple oem one... anyway, stereo headphones work through the adapter.... remote/volume/mic DO NOT..... card readers DO NOT WORK... the build quality of these plugs is what is expected from cheap stuff online :) about the ame as "jvc/maxell" brand headphone plugs... they probably will not hold up *too* long but thats why they are only $2.00(with CA tax), I bought three of them just in case...

The adaptors I received had a 3.5mm male end but a smaller female end that is definately not 3.5mm & does not accept any headphones. I tried to ask for an exchange but was directed to refund only. And UPS is coming to my house to pickup 2 adaptors that arent worth the box we will ship them in. Not much money, but I dont appreciate the wasted time.

If you're looking for a headphone adapter only, this is fine, although it appears a little flimsy. However, although it implies in the description that it carries the microphone signal, this is NOT the case. The precise wording is: "Allows the adapter to be used with stereo headphones that also have integrated microphone functionality". So, yes, you can use it with such headphones, but not for the "microphone functionality". This plug works perfectly. Don't worry that its not one of the big Apple Store name brand accessories. This adapter will serve the purpose well.

The product work great, you need to be realistic it's just a connector it does what it must do. The only bad thing is it took several days to arrive, but finally it did it.

Shipping service is terrible. Don't expect to receive your order for at least 2 weeks. Product feels cheaply made, like the wire will snap at any moment, and above all, it does not work if you need all 4 channels.

At least for the item I received (which does not match picture or description), the female jack is the wrong size (2.5 mm I suspect); standard 3.5 mm plugs won't work with it. Save your time and buy elsewhere. My order was fulfilled by "warren roth" or "G.I.N DEALS via Amazon Fulfillment", not SF planet.
