Beutiful!,
By N. (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 3.6.3 (Audio CD)
Recently I stumbled upon Indochine via internet radio. When it happened, my little fingers were meticulously typing away as my brain had instructed. I was lost, "in the zone," in the bizarre secluded world of my imagination working on a novel. Surprisingly, I was pulled away from, "the zone" by this tranquil hypnotic music as it began to flow through my headphones. My eyebrows turned as I first wondered why is French music playing, did the internet change the station on me? No, it did not. The song playing from this album was, "Ja'i demande a la lune," the sound of the loving fans combined with the music, and the beautiful, sweet majestic voice of Nicola ran through my ears and instantly captivated my mind. Immediately I loved the song.
Next, after some searching I discovered this albums version of "Tes yeux noirs," I also loved it immediately; it continues to send chills down my spine when I hear it. Perhaps it is in part from the amazing energy flowing from the adoring crowd as they practically steal the song. When music is powerful, when artists pour their hearts into their music-- that is when music can truly invoke someone's emotions, feelings and or memories. Now let me tell you I neither speak nor understand French. I believe that little fact speaks a multitude of words for the music on this CD. For those who are unfamiliar with Indochine-- they are a unique band that continues to produce beautiful music. I mention this because this particular album has been out for quite awhile. For those of us such as moi, who do not understand French then remember music is about the music and talent comes from around the world in many different forms as seen through out time. When you listen to this album, it will take you into another world, as you will see. You will hear a few random English words every now and again. Nicola sounds incredibly beautiful when he sings in both French and English; the passion in his voice transfers in English. Mind you, not all artists have that ability. Check out, "Pink Water 2 Ghost track," from the Alice et June deluxe album. In addition Placebos front man, (who as always sounds fabulous with his unique sound,) sings on the track. For my fellow English speakers who stumble this way looking for something different then I will describe Indochine's sound as being similar to that of Depeche Mode. However, that description does not give the proper respect that is due to Indochine as they have their very own distinct extraordinary sound. Magnifique ! I must say, this album is probably one of the best live albums that I have ever heard. In fact, I prefer the live versions of their songs. How many artists can I honestly say that about? Sadly, I cannot. How many artists can you say that about? My favorite songs on this album are, Paradize, Mao Boy, J'ai Demande a la lune, Salambo, Comateen, Anne et moi, Tes yeux noris, Marilyn, and Dunkerque. Well go on then-- what are you waiting for, try the album. You will love it! Forgive me for being long in this review, this is my first and only. I am disappointed that only one review has been written for such a lovely masterpiece that has been around for quite sometime. K.

An excellent concert in Bercy (June 3th, 2003) was recorder for this new album. Great songs like Electrastar, Punishment Park, J'ai demande a la lune, Marilyn and others was performed with energy by the best french group. If you are fan of Indo or if you like very good music, you must buy this double cd.
