The "review" by R.E. Vincent is written by an apologist for the Mormon church. He has a very clear and specific agenda: to defend his cult at all costs. Mormonism, which would like to tout itself as having "ANOTHER testament of Jesus Christ," is desperate to posture itself as a Christian church sect. IT IS NOT part of the Christian community; it IS NOT a Christian church..

I have an original edition of the 1830 Book of Mormon, and a reprint edition of it as well. Unlike the Mormons themselves, I have read their Book of Mormon - and I've read it 18 times now. There is a strong Mormon community in my region, and we're regularly afflicted by their visits to sell their religion. So it behooves me, not only as a Christian but also as a theologically trained member of the Christian community, to know their doctrines - erroneous as they are - and to know my own faith so that I can help lead in them to know what their own religion really taught, and actually teaches.

R.E. Vincent challenges the Tanners' book - and yet has obviously never read it! In fact, he says so at the end of his hissy fit: "As a Book of Mormon scholar, I'd very much like to know the answer to this question before purchasing this book."

He cites the credentials of others, but neglects to cite the Tanners' own bona fides - which are more real, and more practical, and certainly more honest than anything R.E. Vincent has cited. If he would read the book, he'd know their credentials. Even more important, if he read their book, he'd know that they're not kidding about there being 3913 changes in the allegedly God-inspired book by author Joe Smith of Palmyra, New York.

R.E. Vincent likes to lay claim to doctrinal changes in the Christian Bible, and yet can cite none.

This book is a wonderful resource for comparing the 1830/1964 versions of the BOM. The introduction is quite valuable; it explains the context of the volume & points out certain verses that show how Mormon (Latter Day Saints) doctrine has changed since "... the most correct of any book on earth..." was first printed. I recommend this book to LDS and non-LDS for study.

Concise, honest, in your face, Truth at it best defending against Scriptural error. If the origins of the Book of Mormon were of GOD, He certainly would not need to be corrected pertaining to the doctrines and facts written therein. GOD does it right the first time, it is man who tries to play his part and fails miserably, after all look at His-story!

Please forgive this "review." I'd like to know which verses this book says had doctrinal changes? I own and have read from cover-to-cover many editions of the Book of Mormon including 1830, 1908, and others. I'm unaware of any doctrinal changes except in the RLDS version. I've read Royal Skousen's books (on textual differences) about the Book of Mormon. Based on his doctorate degree and as a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics as well as his research of over 10 years of study into the matter of Book of Mormon changes, his credentials are well known. He only mentions one or two verses that may have a doctrinal difference between editions. The Holy Bible has undergone far more change when the first English editions are taken into consideration. When compared to early Latin editions which include books not contained in modern English versions, the Bible has undergone a great deal of doctrinal change. The Koran also.
What does "3,913 Changes in the Book of Mormon" add to the scholarly record not included in Skousen's research? I suppose I'd have to read it to find out. I give it 5 stars to prevent this "review" from being seen as critical. I'm only asking a scholar's question. I haven't read this book. Would some reviewer please give the author's credentials and research methods? And someone please tell what changes in doctrine are pointed out? I have discovered none in over 40 years of research and over a dozen readings of numerous editions of the Book of Mormon. As a Book of Mormon scholar, I'd very much like to know the answer to this question before purchasing this book.
