Added this to 10-yr-old BMW convertible that had no Keyless Entry, but was pre-wired for it.Prewiring made it pretty easy to install, all the connections were in one spot. Still, the instruction manual was a little difficult to decipher for a cookbook mechanic like me. However, after "decryption", the system worked 1st time and every time. EDIT: Range of the remote is quite good - Other reviewer had it "professionally installed", and I'll bet that they just rolled the antenna wire up - instead of extending it. That would give you poor range. I've found range wth stock antenna-wire is 50-60 feet. If you need more range, just add another few feet to the antenna wire; it's just a wire, nothing more. This kit is almost a universal one since there are a LOT of programmable options, which -if you add a couple of 12v Relays and a siren- can turn it into an alarm, get it to roll your power windows and/or close sunroof, do the remote starter thing, etc., etc. I have it set-up so one of the remote buttons closes the convertible top and then rolls up the windows! Excellent buy for the $.

DEI 712T - works for me,

This remote keyless entry system works great for me in my 1999 Avalon. The range is 20-30' with the antenna below the dashboard, and I am very pleased.Determining which wires to use during installation was a challenge. Besides the multitude of wires in the car, I did not find the instructions especially easy to understand as to the exact function of each device wire. I expect that installers understand the instructions very clearly. I did not bother to hook up the horn and lights due to access to the suggested wires. The locking and unlocking function was my goal, and that works. Considering the replacement price of OEM fobs, the price for this entire system with 2 fobs was excellent.

Great Product, Documentation Needs Work,

They recommend this product only be installed by professionals... Let me assure you I am not a professional. Splicing wires is simple enough however the manual was geared towards people with an intimate technical knowledge about automotive wiring. That left this broken opposed thumb mechanical guy looking for internet cheat sheets! Fortunately I was installing it in a car that has a lot of tuner following (Acura Integra) and was able to find a site that said "blue wire from black box to green wire by hood release" and pretty much made installation idiot proof! It worked great right away and has good range. Research your vehicle thoroughly before installing! Make sure you find everything you need before buying, all the installation manuals are on the internet so you should be able to do a "paper" installation before committing any money.
