Added this to 10-yr-old BMW convertible that had no Keyless Entry, but was pre-wired for it.Prewiring made it pretty easy to install, all the connections were in one spot. Still, the instruction manual was a little difficult to decipher for a cookbook mechanic like me. However, after "decryption", the system worked 1st time and every time. EDIT: Range of the remote is quite good - Other reviewer had it "professionally installed", and I'll bet that they just rolled the antenna wire up - instead of extending it. That would give you poor range. I've found range wth stock antenna-wire is 50-60 feet. If you need more range, just add another few feet to the antenna wire; it's just a wire, nothing more. This kit is almost a universal one since there are a LOT of programmable options, which -if you add a couple of 12v Relays and a siren- can turn it into an alarm, get it to roll your power windows and/or close sunroof, do the remote starter thing, etc., etc. I have it set-up so one of the remote buttons closes the convertible top and then rolls up the windows! Excellent buy for the $.

This remote keyless entry system works great for me in my 1999 Avalon. The range is 20-30' with the antenna below the dashboard, and I am very pleased.Determining which wires to use during installation was a challenge. Besides the multitude of wires in the car, I did not find the instructions especially easy to understand as to the exact function of each device wire. I expect that installers understand the instructions very clearly. I did not bother to hook up the horn and lights due to access to the suggested wires. The locking and unlocking function was my goal, and that works. Considering the replacement price of OEM fobs, the price for this entire system with 2 fobs was excellent.

Great Product, Documentation Needs Work,

They recommend this product only be installed by professionals... Let me assure you I am not a professional. Splicing wires is simple enough however the manual was geared towards people with an intimate technical knowledge about automotive wiring. That left this broken opposed thumb mechanical guy looking for internet cheat sheets! Fortunately I was installing it in a car that has a lot of tuner following (Acura Integra) and was able to find a site that said "blue wire from black box to green wire by hood release" and pretty much made installation idiot proof! It worked great right away and has good range. Research your vehicle thoroughly before installing! Make sure you find everything you need before buying, all the installation manuals are on the internet so you should be able to do a "paper" installation before committing any money.

712t Keyless entry system review,

works fine. I was NOT able to install the unit myself. I paid Curcuit City $50 to install the unit. Turned out that the $50 was only for the keyless entry installation. The other options were tucked away neatly within my dash. Otherwise, it works great. The distance for the remote to work is short, but I am ok with that. This unit most definately needs to be professionally installed.

I bought this to replace the defective alarm system someone TRIED to install in my wife's Altima. She bought her car without anyone giving her the factory keyless entry remote or even one to the aftermarket alarm. Reconnecting the battery after working on the car the alarm armed itself and thats when we found out. This was a simple and cheap solution to give her keyless entry plus being able to arm and disarm the factory alarm with the (-) factory alarm disarm output without forking out the cash for a factory remote.

Install manual sucks,

I bought this unit to install in a motorhome. I am retired from 36 years in the electronics industry and have installed many aftermarket products in that time. This is the worst set of instructions I have ever seen. There is no schematic for the 18 wires plus there are ambiguous and conflicting terms between the users manual and install guide. Unless you plan to have it professionally installed, or you know someone who has done it successlfully don't buy it. The manufacturers website is no help either. The listing should state that there is inadequate information for a home installation. To top it off, the pin number to wire color in the manual is the opposite of the actual plug. Which is correct? We may never know. I'll figure it out eventually but consider this fair warning.

This thing works great only two problems with it; the buttons on the remote are small/hard to hit; the instructions are a little cryptic. I wound up finally using a multimeter to confirm my understanding of how this thing was supposed to be wired. after that the tuff part was just getting access to my vehicles wiring. But still I had it wired and working in an afternoon. I used as many features as i could door lock/unlock (obviously), parking lamp flash, horn honk, good for both indicating the doors were locked and sounding the panic alarm, and interior dome lamp. Range is good on the remotes. Still has additional functions i didn't use. The only reason I didnt give the product 5 stars is the small remote buttons and the poor instructions.

There's a lot of shoddy poor quality aftermarket keyless entry units out there today. Fortunately, this unit is not one of them. The remotes are well built and press in quite well. Range is excellent! The unit is small enough to be tucked away almost anywhere you have a bit of space. The harness is well built so the wires wont unravel off easily (as some of those cheapos do!)You can do your typical door locks with auto lock/unlock, horn output, parking light flash, dome light, blinking security light (red LED included), and there's an output for accessories to hook up something like a window roll up module. Only negatives is that the instruction manual could be a little better, but in all honesty, it's way better than those cheapos out there that come with a manual that's been translated by a computer translator, mangling entire sentences from what they're supposed to mean. Just that the manual here could be a little better for the installers with less knowledge.

This is a great product with lots of features at a resonable price. The distance the remote will function is much farther than my other car with factory entry system. Highly recommended for cars with power locks but no remote entry. Manual could be improved by adding more details in the installation section.
