Very Very Nice!!!!!, April 3, 2005
This review is from: 3 Chords & The Truth (Audio CD)
A brilliant piece of work. If you like India Arie's work, do yourself a favor and go get Anthony David. When I first heard 'Cold Turkey' on XM radio, I immediately thought "This dude reminds me of a female India Arie". Well I did my research and come to find out, they are actually very good friends and also writing partners. He shows up as Tony Harrington in the credits on her CD's. Where her music is more produced (dont get me wrong, I love India), Anthony's music is more raw, like its just him and his guitar. I went and bought the CD having heard 'Cold Turkey' only at that time. Risky move but well worth it. This is one soulful brother with a kinda raspy voice 'a la Anthony Hamilton' that you feel in your bones. I would love to hear him perform live. Anthony, please come to the MD/DC/VA area!!!!!! You got a fan for life here.

Feels good, November 5, 2004
This review is from: 3 Chords & The Truth (Audio CD)
If the post Mis-educated acoustic guitar wailing Lauren Hill has emancipated you and a mere pluck from India Arie can put you in an orgasmic state, then Anthony David's "3 Chords & The Truth" will indubitably give your ears an untainted does of freedom.
The CD is a mix of Folk, R&B, and Caribbean rhythms lead by David's beatific strings. The quality of David's work should be no surprise to Detroiters since the sampling listeners received on poet extraordinaire Jessica Care Moore's debut CD, "The Funk Soul Grove."
"The Water/The Fire," "Heartstrings," and "Part Of My Life" are all expressive sensual ballads accompanied by delicate Congo drums. Unlike typical love singers, David asks for compassion instead of bleakly begging for it.
At best David is average singer with limited range that he smartly stays within. His raspy voice and passive style is exceptionally similar to guitarist Bill Whitters.
"My life flash right before my eyes and came to the part about you, we can shiver at the same vibration if you're nervous too," croons the Atlanta native in the poetic "Yes."
He's superman lover in "Spittin' Game," speaks against racial profiling in "Krooked Kop," and does some soul searching in the melodious "Part of my life."
"3 Chords and The Truth" is beautiful escape into a different part of the neo soul world that we scarcely ever see.

If you love India.Arie, you will LOVE Anthony David. His music is very mellow and every song is enjoyable. I would highly recommend this if you are into new-soul music.
