5.0 out of 5 stars Very Very Nice!!!!!
A brilliant piece of work. If you like India Arie's work, do yourself a favor and go get Anthony David. When I first heard 'Cold Turkey' on XM radio, I immediately thought "This dude reminds me of a female India Arie". Well I did my research and come to find out, they are actually very good friends and also writing partners. He shows up as Tony Harrington in the credits...

2.0 out of 5 stars Yawn......
This cd was...well... yawn. There is only so much one can take with the monotone singing tone and music that never seems to change, speed up, get interesting. This is a cd that I would listen to if I needed something to help me fall asleep. I am a big fan of neo-soul, but this is a bit much.

He shows up as Tony Harrington in the credits on her CD's. Where her music is more produced (dont get me wrong, I love India), Anthony's music is more raw, like its just him and his guitar. I went and bought the CD having heard 'Cold Turkey' only at that time. Risky move but well worth it. This is one soulful brother with a kinda raspy voice 'a la Anthony Hamilton' that you feel in your bones. I would love to hear him perform live. Anthony, please come to the MD/DC/VA area!!!!!! You got a fan for life here.

Honorable Mentions:

Spittin Game
Yes
Krooked Kop
Cheating Man
The Water/ The Fire
Believe Me
GA Peach

Oh shoot, the whole thing is Tight so just go get it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Feels good, November 5, 2004
This review is from: 3 Chords & The Truth (Audio CD)
If the post Mis-educated acoustic guitar wailing Lauren Hill has emancipated you and a mere pluck from India Arie can put you in an orgasmic state, then Anthony David's "3 Chords & The Truth" will indubitably give your ears an untainted does of freedom.
The CD is a mix of Folk, R&B, and Caribbean rhythms lead by David's beatific strings. The quality of David's work should be no surprise to Detroiters since the sampling listeners received on poet extraordinaire Jessica Care Moore's debut CD, "The Funk Soul Grove."
"The Water/The Fire," "Heartstrings," and "Part Of My Life" are all expressive sensual ballads accompanied by delicate Congo drums. Unlike typical love singers, David asks for compassion instead of bleakly begging for it.
At best David is average singer with limited range that he smartly stays within. His raspy voice and passive style is exceptionally similar to guitarist Bill Whitters.
"My life flash right before my eyes and came to the part about you, we can shiver at the same vibration if you're nervous too," croons the Atlanta native in the poetic "Yes."
He's superman lover in "Spittin' Game," speaks against racial profiling in "Krooked Kop," and does some soul searching in the melodious "Part of my life."
"3 Chords and The Truth" is beautiful escape into a different part of the neo soul world that we scarcely ever see.

If you love India.Arie, you will LOVE Anthony David. His music is very mellow and every song is enjoyable. I would highly recommend this if you are into new-soul music.

This is a must have. If it wasn't for XM Satellite Radio, I would have never known Anthony David existed. My favorite cuts: "Spittin Game", "Cold Turkey", and "Cheatin Man". I look forward to more sounds from Anthony David in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 Chords & the Truth IS NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH!!!! 10 stars!!, October 27, 2004
This review is from: 3 Chords & The Truth (Audio CD)
I had an opportunity to see this young man perform live. He is a skilled guitarist with MUCH urban flavor. You could liken him to Anthony Hamilton, in spirit and style. But he is still richly unique. I play this CD EVERYDAY!! I enjoy this CD sooo much each song is better than the next. My favorite songs are "Believe Me" and "Cheatin Man", because they hit sadly close to home. Nevertheless, Anthony David, you have been wonderful therapy for my broken heart....Whenever you are in the DC Area, I want to be there to support you because you have surely been supporting me and you don't even know it!!! Job Well Done Anthony David.....More More More!

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Debut!, February 8, 2007
This review is from: 3 Chords & The Truth (Audio CD)
I had the pleasure of seeing Anthony David open for India.Arie when she came here last month. And even though I had heard of the name, I hadn't heard his music. So I was truly interested in what this guy had to offer. Well, little did I know that I'd be captivated from the very first song. Song after song, I found myself enjoying every note that he played on his 6-string guitar and every lyric that he spoke. As he sat on the stool under the spotlight, I couldn't help but wonder why I had never heard his music before. Well, I actually had heard his work...unbeknownst to me. He worked on India.Arie's first album and co-wrote her latest single "There's Hope." So I really had to get my hands on his two cds. Although he has a new album called The Red Clay Chronicles, I found myself drawn to his more acoustic debut album 3 Chords & The Truth.

Although not the strongest singer out there, his creativity and songwriting make up for his limited singing range. "Yes" starts off the album, instantly submerging you into his emotional magnificence. His heartfelt lyrics continue on "Heartstrings," again drawing the listener into a familiar story about wondering if somebody is worth the risk of loving wholeheartedly. The live performance of "Spittin' Game" is a brazen song about what else...spitting game! The standout track "Cold Turkey" had everybody entertained at the concert because of the wickedly funny yet sometimes factual occurrence of not being able to stop loving someone at the drop of a dime. "50/50 Love" is a decent reggae-tinged ditty, while "GA Peach" talks about the lovely ladies of Anthony David's home state. "Believe Me" is a cool, self-assured melody on trusting someone to love you the right way.

"Ain't Enough For Me" discusses the feeling of wanting to spend more time with that special someone, while "Cheatin' Man" speaks on making the mistake of stepping out on your woman even though you know it's the wrong thing to do. "Skyline" is a simple, subdued tale about dedicating yourself to another person. "Part Of My Life" is his renditon of the India.Arie song he co-wrote for her first album Acoustic Soul. He closes the album with the hilarious "Krooked Kop" and the the tranquil "The Water/The Fire." Do yourself a favor and pick up 3 Chords & The Truth. And if you like what you hear, there's always more with The Red Clay Chronicles.[....]

5.0 out of 5 stars while Krooked Kop will make your blood boil, August 11, 2006
This review is from: 3 Chords & The Truth (Audio CD)
3 Chords & The Truth is the debut album from Anthony David. The album contains 14 songs including the remix of GA Peach. With exception from the reggae song 50/50 Love the album is pure soul music.
In a passionate and compelling way Anthony plays the guitar chords and tells his truth. Anthony's songs about life and love and about the Krooked Kop are items we all can relate to. When listening to the Spittin' Game your temperature might pleasantly rise while Krooked Kop will make your blood boil. It's cleaver how Anthony David has packed these steamy and hot emotions in an album that is so very cool. Yes in the first track it looks like life has just begun and the world has just been created it feels supernatural and fresh. Georgia girls look out now because guys from all over the world now know how sweet the Peach is.(TA)

Stand Out Tracks: Yes, Cold Turkey, Spittin'Game, GA Peach, Believe me, Ain't Enough For Me, Part of My Life

I saw him in concert in Augusta, GA. I had to have the album. The song GA Peach has special meaning for me. He has a new one coming out in Sept and the preview for it was just as great as this album. I can't wait to hear more from this talented artist...
