"Excellent instructions augmented by clear illustrations, graphics, and photographs."—Booklist.

"This unique book is highly recommended."—Library Journal.

"Whether you're looking to create keepsakes for yourself or for a friend, you're sure to cherish the creative ideas offered by Evershed."—Country Victorian.

Take your cross-stitching skills into the third dimension. All these imaginative and attractive finished pieces do more than just hang on the wall. Some, including a jewelry box and flower vase, can serve very practical purposes; others, such as the amazing decorative cross-stitch country village with an array of buildings, should be picked up and viewed from all four sides. Stitch colorful, scented town houses, keepsake clocks, charming dolls’ house furniture, and more.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Small three-dimensional needlework buildings are commonly stitched in sections on plastic canvas and the component parts joined together. Making them from fabric is more difficult because the fabric must be stretched and tucked to make flat surfaces. Evershed has devised a method of mounting cross-stitched fabric pieces onto plastic canvas and then joining the mounted pieces to form small houses or boxes. Her projects for an English village are delicately detailed, with simulated stonework and half-timbering done in the style of the popular ceramic villages. There are also projects for boxes and doll furniture. Each project has step-by-step instructions, charts, and DMC and Anchor thread keys. This unique book is highly recommended for public library collections.

From Booklist

Evershed, in her handbook on flexible 3-D cross-stitchery, features the use of plastic canvas as a support medium rather than as actual background. There are, in essence, two methods of designing the more than 25 projects--either lacing fabric to canvas or sandwiching canvas between two pieces of fabric. The stitchery's softness and artfulness, then, is fully showcased, whether by way of the intricacies of French knots or in the design of, say, a village parish church; or choose a fragrantly decorative wisteria house or a suite of dollhouse furniture. Excellent instructions augmented by clear illustrations, graphics, and photographs. Suppliers appended. Barbara Jacobs

This book is a "must have" for your stitchery library. If you want to try something new, these 3-D houses are adorable! I plan on using ALL of the patterns. It has inspired me to design a few of my own. I am going to design a Christmas village for my Christmas tree this year and use metallic threads.
