With music the way it is in this day and age, I just about gave up looking for anything that could excite me about it ever again. And lo and behold The Pillbugs CD found it's way into my hands. After listening to the whole thing I had the same feeling I had when I first bought the White Album. That now I have an album that I will love and intrigue me until the end of time *AND it comes with an extra psychedelic 3D Viewmaster, which makes me think of the old albums and how they used to contain extra prizes*.
The band is not hugely famous in America so I feel very lucky that I have stumbled upon this little gem. The vocals have a uniqueness in their pseudo-British style that does not get hindered by an effeminate quality most modern-psych bands employ. Think more Daltrey, McCartney, Ray Davies, Bowie or even Micky Dolenz. The Monkees-on-acid influence seems to equal or even surpass The Beatles at times. You also get the feeling that this was recorded at Abbey Road sometime in 1969. They make it clear it was all analog and all real musicians (including the strings, flutes and horns). But you won't find any re-makes or sound-alikes of past psychedelic gems. The Pillbugs blaze new terrain as if it were all happening still today. If this WAS 1969 then songs like "If You Can't Remain," "The Kind Of Problem I Want," and "Will Love Ever Find Chastity Rose" would have been smash hits.

I dearly love my Beatles, Wondermints,Beach Boys, Jellyfish, and bands of similar influence and this is top-notch songs and sounds from a band that deserves worship. Amazing!

Fans of the classic 60s bands that some of us grew up with and others wish they had, have a contemporary band to catch up with and be AMAZED. The Pillbugs are really without peer when it comes to creating new music that conveys the magic and wonder of groups like the Beatles, the Beach Boys, early Pink Floyd, Spirit and a host of others. The other astonishing achievement of this band is that they do not recreate the past, but incorperate it in their own unique worldview and step out of the shadows of their heros
and into the psychedelic dawn of a new era. Alternately light and day-glo, then dark and complicated, and finally just beautiful and heart-melting, The 3-Dimensional In-Popcycle Dream is a voyage through love, surrealism, dreams, nostalgia and gorgeous melodies. The songs will remain in your head when you occasionally remove the cd from your player. And don't stop with this one, they also have a self-titled double cd, The Pillbugs, and Happy Birthday, the followup to 3-D. You will not be disappointed.

Then you will love this CD by the Pillbugs. Chastity Rose itself will make your jaw drop! Not to mention other classics on this CD like Heather (Whatever), Popcycle Island, etc. You may question, why is this CD $78 to $203, well demand is outstripping supply, and I can tell you this CD is well worth it!!! If I could I would give it 11 stars. On a more serious note, major labels like Capitol should come in and buy the rights to the independemt Pillbugs catalog. With minimal promotion, the Pillbugs could be an international sensation. They are the proverbial undiscovered mega group. One listen to their catalog and you'll agree. Great pop music with catchy melodies, harmonies, and vocal hooks never goes out of style (e.g. Beatles, Beach Boys, do I need to say more).
