5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for pot roasts!
I was pleasantly surprised by this cookbook. I was one of those people who thought slow cookers were just for pot roasts. Not so. In addition to main entrees, Bonet includes recipes for beverages, breakfasts, and desserts. I never would have thought to try some of the foods she suggests in my slow cooker. For example, I tried the Breakfast Casserole and it turned out...

For example, I tried the Breakfast Casserole and it turned out great! Plus, I enjoyed not having to cook breakfast in the morning. It was nice to have it ready and waiting for me when I got up.

I've also tried the Peachy Chicken and it was good too. Next on my list are the recipes for Santa Fe Chicken and Acorn Squash. I'm glad I have this cookbook. I think I'm really going to save some time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a Cook and I like this Book, January 4, 2006
This review is from: 3-Ingredient Slow Cooker Recipes: 200 Recipes for Memorable Meals (Paperback)
I received this book as a gift. I'm not a cook; therefore, people buy books like this for me. This particular one is quite useful. The first few sections have short but to the point information about cooking with a slow cooker. My sister-in-law and I tried the Santa Fe Black Bean recipe with mild salsa, and it had a nice balanced flavor. We were both reading the recipes and many look easy and sound like good eating. Ms. Bonet adds lots of notes with extra suggestions at the bottom to dress up the food. I've ended up ordering 4 copies of this book--one for my sister-in-law. Ms. Bonet did a nice job with this book.

I bought this book for my elderly father, who is just learning to cook for himself. He has been able to make some of the recipes, and they have turned out well. But many of them have frustrated him because either the recipe calls for obscure items not easily available in the grocery store, or because one of the "three" items is really a compilation of items that the author gave the recipe for in the beginning of the book and expects you to have already prepared that in advance to be used in a number of recipes throughout the book. So many of the recipes in fact have more than "three" ingredients. Also, there are many "fringe" recipes that may interest some, but won't interest people looking to make basic entrees.

This cookbook is full of quick to prepare yummy meals! My family loves what comes out of the crock pot and I love the fact that I'm not stuck in the kitchen at 4:30 making dinner!

I love this cookbook! The recipes are so easy. Each one I have tried has turned out great. I love that a lot of the recipes have all the ingredients non-perishable except the meat, so I can stock up on the pantry ingredients and all I have to buy is the meat.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Cookbook for the Busy Person, April 8, 2008
This review is from: 3-Ingredient Slow Cooker Recipes: 200 Recipes for Memorable Meals (Paperback)
I just began a new schedule and I was having a very hard time adjusting to having dinner on the table and not getting home until 6:30 at night. My daughter was starving by then so I couldn't just start cooking - I needed something ready when I got home. Hence the slow cooker meals. I tried using the slow cooker recipes that I found in other cookbooks but the food prep before hand meant that I would have to wake up 2 hours earlier just to chop, dice and assemble.
This cookbook is so easy and the recipes are quite good! I love it. Put the main ingredient in and add some prepared soup, gravy, spices, fruit, etc and voila...when you come home it is done. Now, I said prepared ingredients. My biggest objection to the book is that the recipes call for a lot of prepared/processed ingredients that I would not normally cook with. But, I figure that it is a whole lot better for you than a meal from a fast food restaurant or eating out. I usually serve the meal with rice/potatoes/noodles that I prepare the night before and heat up in the microwave plus a fresh or frozen veggy.
If you are a busy person who needs help with feeding your family - this book will not disappoint you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for me, June 4, 2008
This review is from: 3-Ingredient Slow Cooker Recipes: 200 Recipes for Memorable Meals (Paperback)
Most of these recipes are based on canned ingredients. Since I prefer using natural ingredients as much as possible, this book is a disappointment. See my review of the 5 ingredient book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A guide to super simple cooking, February 25, 2008
This review is from: 3-Ingredient Slow Cooker Recipes: 200 Recipes for Memorable Meals (Paperback)
This cookbook truly gives recipes which take only three ingredients. Of course, items like salt, water, etc aren't considered one of the three ingredients. You'd probably need to stock your pantry with some of the more commonly used items, like cheese soup, in order to throw together one of these recipes at the drop of a hat. Otherwise, you'd be running to the store to get some item like canned Mexican corn (the corn with bits of red and green bell pepper included.) I mostly use the book for recipe ideas. That is, if I don't have Mexican corn on hand, I use the corn I have and cut up bits of red and green bell peppers myself.

The recipes I made were very tasty, and of course, super simple! If you hate spending time in the kitchen, but love eating cheap, healthy food at home, this is the book for you. Pick 10 or so recipes you'd like to try and make a list of the ingredients you'll need that you don't already have on hand. Once your pantry is stocked, you can throw something in the slow cooker before you head off to work and come home to a wonderful, home-cooked meal!

2.0 out of 5 stars Ingredients are too artificial for our preference, September 27, 2008

A lot of the recipes call for highly processed foods with artificial ingredients and preservatives. If you want to stay away from these as our family does, give the Hildebrands' three ingredient cookbook a try. Everything I've made from that cookbook has been all natural, and delicious.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Useful Recipes, June 2, 2008

This review is from: 3-Ingredient Slow Cooker Recipes: 200 Recipes for Memorable Meals (Paperback)
When looking for new ideas for my slow cooker this provides many suggestions. The recipes use supplies easily found. Those i have used have all been tasty and simple to assemble. I recommend Pork Chops and Vegetables in Mushroom Gravy and Cranberry Chicken.

The format is very informative with Cooking time, Attention, Yield, Add It!, Note, Nutritional Analysis and an additional item Try This. The idea of 3-Ingredient is unique and the use of prepared sauces makes the recipes flavorful. I am looking forward to trying more of these recipes.
