Nouvelle Vague's self titled debut was great. It combined the best of MBP (Brazilian pop) with hits and not so much hits from the 80s. Great music for lounging by the pool, and you'll hear it in cool hotel lobbies, bars, and occasionally, on a hip radio station. Their second album somehow just didn't quite measure up, but now, with NV3, they're back with a vengeance. On NV3, they picked some obvious 80s songs, and some less obvious ones. Their version of Talking Heads' "road to nowhere" is great, and they don't give it a samba or bossa flavor, but instead, a country music treatment. With a few exceptions, this is a great album. Check out their KCRW appearance online too. Good stuff. |
