5.0 out of 5 stars Low cost and excellet device
I hope all who read this understand. I have tested 5 different LED lights and these are the best of the series. The amount of light for 3 gives a soft glow in the dinning room. The amount of 6 lights more than shows the whole room. All this for 9 Watts of power vs 150 watts.

They are decorative and more pleasant than the Compact Flourescent lights, especially in clear fixtures. However, they fall short in light output. Not even close to the 40W equivalent rating. More like 15W - 20W. I used them in a 3 light fixture to replace 3 standard 25W bulbs and there appears to be less overall light output. The low output compounds the "color" of the light. When bright, all lights look White. Being dimmer, these lights have a touch of green to them. Not unpleasant, but since most soft white bulbs are tinted a warm yellow, it is something that you are likely to notice. Not the "warm white" color that they say in the marketing materials.

If you have a light that is on all night or whenever you are out, this is a good call as the energy consumption is like a night light, yet the bulbs are much brighter and will work for years.

Good bulb for what it is. They would do the planet a better service by correctly describing it and improving output in the next generation.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor reliability, May 13, 2009
This review is from: 3-Pack Lights of America 40 watt replacement LED Torpedo Lights (Small base)
I purchased this thinking that they would offer a replacement, illumination-wise, for a 40 watt bulb. Not even close. It fits in a 40 watt bulb socket and is about the same size, but has a small fraction of the lumen output. Also, all three bulbs lasted about a week and then went dead. Checking the internal circuit (it's fairly basic), I found that a single led had failed in each bulb assembly. Thus, I soldered a 150 Ohm resistor (the equivalent electrical load) across the failed led's. Unfortunately, the repaired bulbs only worked a few days. It appears that the heat is opening up the junction in the led semiconductor. When they improve the led reliability, this should provide a long-life light source, but not at the implied illumination.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very bright, December 9, 2010

Light output is certainly not equal to a normal 40watt bulb as listed on the package. I would guess closer to a 15 watt bulb. They just don't produce much light and probably would have very limited applicable uses in a normal home.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good buy 2 years ago, February 19, 2011
This review is from: 3-Pack Lights of America 40 watt replacement LED Torpedo Lights (Small base)
Bought these in December 2008 at Sam's club. One burned out after a year of moderate use so I took returned them and got a new 3 pack in January 2010. This batch seems to be getting dimmer to the point where they aren't very useful where I had them so I picked up a Feit BPCFC/LED that is great--one bulb puts out more light than the 3 old ones. One problem the Feit BPCFC/LED bulb I bought is the newer flat type LED, they call it "SMD Technology" but the package uses the same code as the old, tall glass spike design pictured above so, be sure you get the new style. The new bulb is a bit smaller and the LEDs are mounted on a 3 sided pyramid, 6 LEDs on each of the three faces; great bulb, similar price, hope it lasts as long as LEDs should.

2.0 out of 5 stars Low than rated light output, January 10, 2011
This review is from: 3-Pack Lights of America 40 watt replacement LED Torpedo Lights (Small base)
The Plus, Ultra low power consumption.

Con's light output is closer to 20-25 watts. I bought 12 and were selling them all as they just don't provide enough light for our large rooms. For mood lighting in dinning areas the light is perfect. If a 3W version comes out that would be the one to get. All in All Appearance is better than CFL's but for the price you should get a better product. SMD's are more efficient I would like to see those in the next model up.

3.0 out of 5 stars not 40 watt replacements, January 1, 2011
This review is from: 3-Pack Lights of America 40 watt replacement LED Torpedo Lights (Small base)
It works but... good for 15 watt replacement only.
I wish "Lights of America" is more honest about the wattage rating. Do they mean 40 watt replacements if you use all three lamps?
Hope somebody at "Lights of America" read this and reply to me.

These bulbs were fairly inexpensive for LED bulbs so I thought I'd give them a try and see how the technology works. The bulbs themselves work just fine. However, the light output is pitiful. LED bulbs are only good for accent lighting. I put them in a chandelier in our entryway and my wife asked me if it was a joke. A single 15W incandescent bulb puts out more light than all 3 of these together. Oh well, maybe they will improve these in a few years. In the meantime, don't bother getting these if you actually need to see where you are going.

There isn't a whole lot you can say about light bulbs. They arrived quickly and work fine. The LEDs make the coach light look more like a gas light. Not too bright - just a nice accent to the home.

The vendor providing these lights did everything right. They processed my order right away and shipped on time. The vendor is fine. The bulbs, however, are a completely different story. Please, read on...

These lights are (were) used in a couple of dusk to dawn fixtures. To safely access these fixtures, I need a ladder. I didn't like the idea of having to change out the old $0.99 per pair (or less) of incandescent bulbs, basically, every year, so I purchase these, advertised as 30,000 hour bulbs, to save me from that annual task. Unfortunately, these $28 for (6) LED bulbs did not even last from the end of spring 2011 to the end of summer 2011 before burning out.

We purchased these bulbs understanding the differential in brilliance and color index, as we have have many other low level, dusk to dawn, lighting fixtures that have used LED replacement bulbs in them, and they have lasted for years. We also felt the lesser quality of light and the 7.5 times the ordinary cost was a reasonable trade off for the many (10+) years of maintenance free living with the lights. WRONG!!! Lasting only 4 to 6 months, it was NOT at all a fair price or trade off for the poor quality of light rendered.

Overall, these LED bulbs are a very expensive, very poor quality alternative, delivering poor quality lighting, when compared to the US Government banned incandescent light bulb. But, I guess the US Government must know better!?!? Right?!?! Unless the US Government is paying for your bulb and the labor to change them, may I suggest you look back toward incandescent bulbs?

Anyhow... For us, for now, its back to good, old fashioned, (formerly) American manufactured, incandescent light bulbs until the manufactures of LED lights figure out how to make the higher lumen bulbs with a much better quality. Maybe I'll now wait for the prices to drop, too, just to woo me back into making another purchase of these type of lights.

Happy shopping!
