This review is from: The 3-Season Diet: Solving the Mysteries of Food Cravings, Weight-Loss, and Exercise (Hardcover)
I have read both of Douillard's books and this is just as excellent as his first one. By focusing what you eat on what is naturally available in a season (he divides the year into thirds starting with spring on March 1), your body does what it was intended to do in each season. Spring is lower fat and higher in the greens and sprouts that are available. Summer is high in carbohydrates with the fruits and vegetables that are readily available. Winter is high protein and slightly higher fat. Lunch is your main meal of the day (and he acknowledges the difficulty of that in our fast paced society), but you should spend at least one hour, preferable one and a half enjoying a sumptious lunch. It does not promote vegetarianism though meat is down played except in winter. He provides shopping list for each of the three seasons to help and sample menus though no recipes. I have tried this for a week and have lost 3 pounds without effort and feel more energized. I have been looking for a diet for life not just a fad diet that works until you get off of it. He does go over the fad diets that we all have heard of and says they have there place in the right season. Low fat in spring, high carb in summer and high protein in winter. I am very excited that I have finally found a way to eat that works. He also gives wonderful breathing, stretching and exercise advice to further help you in improving the quality of your life. Read this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Eating in Season, December 12, 2000

This review is from: The 3-Season Diet: Solving the Mysteries of Food Cravings, Weight-Loss, and Exercise (Hardcover)
For generations people ate what was available to them by the Earths seasonal turn. Perhaps there was some canning to get you through a long winter, but for the most part nature's schedule determined your diet. Only since the introduction of convenience and fast food in the last 50 or so years have our wastebands expanded beyond our genetics. More and more, we are plagued by depression, obesity, and fatigue. All of the preservatives and genetic altering of our foods to keep them on the shelf longer have only added to our "heaviness". This book guides you back to the to the idealogy that with most things in life, nature is the best guide to survival.

Purchased this book upon recommendation from our daughter. It has changed the way we purchase our food and the way we eat. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars It makes such sense!, June 8, 2000

This review is from: The 3-Season Diet: Solving the Mysteries of Food Cravings, Weight-Loss, and Exercise (Hardcover)
When one changes the inner environment of an individual structure--such as the unique self--how sensible it is to consider the effects of one's outer space, as well. All food is good, when it agrees with your own construct and the times and tides that make alterations! It's a yearlong guide, not a five-day wonder or 'I wonder?'.
