Have seen reviews elsewhere that were very negative and mine has been great, so thought I'd put my experience on Amazon. First off, I hate it when people review things within the first week. How can you possibly have gotten to know the product or know how it will hold up? So I waited until I've had mine about 10 months. It's in a 10x30 shop with about an 11' ceiling where I do primarily woodworking. My "dustmakers" are 14" bandsaw, 10" tablesaw, 10" radial saw, 48" floorstanding belt sander ... and a few other odds and ends. I have a JET chip collector (not a fancy one) which I like a lot, but it doesn't do so great on fine dust. I've had a Rikon Midi-Lathe that's been going strong for about 5 years and I really like it, so thought I'd give their air cleaner a try to augment the chip collector.

So ... in contrast to what reviewers on other sites say, I did not find this unit to be unexpectedly loud. It sounds like a furnace blower fan - probably what's under the housing. Yes, you do have to aim the remote at the front of the unit... but so do I with EVERY other IR remote I own. I can stand a good 15 - 20' away and it fires up fine. Mine is not that fussy - just point in the general direction. I usually only use low because in conjunction with the chip collector that seems to do a great job of keeping the air clean (more later). You don't HAVE TO hang this guy from the ceiling. I put up a shelf with a couple shelf brackets and anchored it to the wall per instructions and it works great. It may theoretically not work quite as efficiently in that position due to air circulation issues, but it works like a charm where it is, so who gives a rip about theoretical when reality is it works fine.

Purchased this air cleaner on sale at Christmas. Got it out of the box and with help attahced to the rafters in my 30 X 16 shop. Works great! Cleans the air and is as quiet as you can expect. Got the remote by the door as I walk in so I can just turn it on at that time. Yes, you do have to point the remote at the controls of the air cleaner not the filter on the other end. Read several reviews that down graded the product on this fact. But show me a TV that will turn on by remote when you aim it at the back. Just a little planning and it works fine. Never had a RIKON before but am now looking at the 14" bandsaw. So far been a great buy.... but time will tell

I've had the 61-200 for about 9 months and have no complaints other than what another reviewer mentioned about the outer filter retention clips. I've yet to successfully remove the outer/pleated filter w/o one or both retention clips falling out but maybe it's just me. Like the other reviewer said, it's not the BMW model, more like a Honda, however unlike a civic and a 5 series, I bet w/the majority of these air cleaners, the blower motors and filter or filter components are all made at the same factory in China, (of course someone will probably set me straight on trivial knowledge of how and where the worlds shop air cleaners are manufactured). I've yet to discern whether the outer 5 micron pleated filter really needs to be replaced by a Rikon endorsed product or not. I'm assuming that there's not much, if any, difference in the "official" replacement filter and the 3M I can get at a big box store. Other than a price difference of $50-$60 that is. The remote has worked fine, I do have to be pointing it toward the front of the unit but since it's mounted on the ceiling, it's a little easier than getting a ladder every time I want to change the setting or turn it on/off. I got this at a local vendor for a great price and as far as I can tell it does the job, the only reason it doesn't get five stars is fit and finish but that's not worth another $100 to me.

This product was iffy from the start. You had to hold the remote within 3 feet of the control panel to get it to do anything, and then, after just a couple of hours of use, it would often just make long beep noises that wouldn't go away until you unplugged the unit. I hoped that it had simply come with a poor C2025 watch style battery and that it wasn't getting a proper signal from the remote - so I get a new battery and decide to try again the next day.

Upon plugging it in the next day, it never would start again. It would not work from the remote or the on-board touchpad. The onboard breaker was not thrown. Nothing would get this going again. Clearly, the control board was faulty. Considering the trouble of installing such an expensive device overhead only to have it die a few hours later, I plan to never buy a Rikon product again. Should have got the Jet.

On the plus side, while it did work, it wasn't too loud and did a nice job filtering the air in my 23*21*9 shop (garage). However, with faulty electrical components, it's not worth another attempt at a Rikon.
