5.0 out of 5 stars I think it will "affect" more than "effect" ..., August 12, 2002
By A Customer
I'm not sure how this 1986 album could be an indicator of "lameness to come" since it still stands as the latest studio effort from Zebra. Reportedly, a new record is on the way early in 2003. Now THAT's a hiatus.

3.V is a stunning example of where melodic hard rock COULD have been at the end of the 1980s. There are too many influences to count that pop out of the songs on this disk: Zeppelin, Beatles, 80s metal, Yes, even a jazzy riff or two. It's great fun and even better turned up loud.

If you like Zep, Asia, Rush, The Flower Kings or any bands of that nature, check out Zebra. They will not disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive Zebra album, IMHO, March 19, 2007
By gooup "gooup" (Louisiana) - See all my reviews
How i remember that day, so long ago ... riding in my buddy's car and stopping him mid-sentence so i could hear the music lilting from his dashboard speakers.

"WHO is THAT?", i interrupted, my interest piqued by the velvety vocals.

"Zebra", he retorted very matter-of-factly ... as if i were INSANE for not knowing. i was awestruck ... and being a lad of only 14 from Louisiana, an instant connection was forged. These guys had a HUGE sound, and they were from my neck of the woods.

From the ethereal intro on "Can't Live Without", this album lulls you into submission with it's definitive lyrics and it's polished musicianship.

"He's Making You the Fool" is a perfect example of Randy Jackson's other-wordly vocal ability, and it segues into "Time" which is one of my all-time favorite Zebra tracks, and a finely crafted acoustic work of art. From there, "Your Mind's Open" crashes down upon without abandon, it's bright keyboards and rapid-fire percussion. "Better Not Call" is a song which tackles the love/hate relationship that transcends a loved one's addiction (that of course, is my interpretation).

"You'll Never Know" is Felix's chance to shine, showcasing a spectacular keyboard arrangement, coupled with Randy's layered choruses. "About to make the Time" let's Randy's songwriting prowess shine. "Hard Living Without You" was just meant to be played live ... the solo is beyond reproach. "Isn't that the Way" brings the album to a close with its smart lyrics and vocal arrangement ... just superb.

Again, this is the album that got me "hooked" on Zebra, so i am a bit "biased," i admit it ... OK? But trust me, if you're into Gotthard or other AOR ... you'll LOVE this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Music, May 30, 2005
Zebra ,to me has always been a band that had all the good of the old while integrating the new sound(keyboards). Jackson and the gang was an is a power trio that put out consistently great powerful rock. This album is exteremly powerful and probably one of my favorites. It actually gets a 4.5 star rating. Groups like this are hard to come by. They never reached stardom which was probably why they never sold out. In 2005 they continue to rock.
Great music and great playing

3.0 out of 5 stars Good album but not their best.
I give it 3.5 stars because I really only get into about half of "3.V". I give "No Tellin' Lies" 4.5 stars and their self-titled debut gets 5++ stars since it's my favorite and I... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing band, great album
Zebra is an amazing rock/pop band from the 80s that still performs down here in south Louisiana. I saw them the other night at one of their 30th anniversary bashes. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars It Effected Me, But Not In A Good Way
The stupid album title is an indicator of greater lameness to come. This album made me want to vomit. Actually, I'm ashamed to admit I ever owned it, even if only on vinyl.
