About the Author

Dallas Woodburn, 18, has been published in several Chicken Soup for the Soul books, as well as national magazines including Writer’s Digest and Justine. A Creative Writing major at the University of Southern California, she also writers a regular “Teen Talk” column for Family Circle magazine. Dallas’s foundation “Write On!” (www.zest.net/writeon) encourages kids to read and write through book drives and essay contests.

I enjoyed all of the stories in this collection, especially "The Hitchhiker" and "The 74-Year-Old Rookie." Woodburn's quirky characters are vividly real, entertaining and very likeable. I could relate to her stories and I know you will too. I agree with Julia McGuire's review: you will keep turning the pages until 3 a.m.!!! I reccommend you buy a copy for yourself and one for a friend.

This is one of those "un-put-down-able" books. I read it from cover to cover in one sitting. It makes you laugh; It makes you cry; It makes you think. What a wonderful collection of essays by a very talented young woman! Each story is better than the last. Even those of us who are MUCH older than this author can learn a great deal from her. Many of her stories brought back memories from high school, and the essay about her grandmother really tugged at my heart. This book was a tremendous blessing to me.

I read 3 a.m. about a month ago and enjoyed it thoroughly. I think I was up until 3 a.m. reading it, as terribly cliché as it sounds. The humor and the intimacy of the stories really had me hooked. "A Real Beauty" was probably my favorite. The reason I started writing was because of my grandfather's unwavering encouragement and support. The bond between grandfather and granddaughter in the story was really sweet, and I could relate to it easily.
