5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource for those who are unsure of what they want to do!, December 7, 2008
This review is from: 30 Careers Before 30 - Finding Your Dream Job Faster than I Did (Paperback)
In 30 Careers Before 30: Finding Your Dream Job Faster Than I Did, the reader encounters an invaluable resource. Whether you're in high school trying to plan out your future, or whether you've just graduated from college and are looking to get your career going, Daniel Lakstins steers you through the often confusing job market to help you identify and prepare for the work that will be right for you.

It's easy to get distracted in a world that offers so many options, but this book helps you stay on topic. A short read, (coming in at only 80 pages,) Lakstins gives you the information you need as concisely as possible so you can get done reading and get down to the important work of finding the job that is perfect for you.

This book is a quick read, but Lakstins doesn't scrimp on the necessary details: From educating yourself properly, to determining where you would be happiest, to succeeding once you've found your dream job, with this short manual you will be completely prepared for success!

This book is a friendly, easy read. No matter where you are on your career path, this book has a little something for you. I especially liked the ideas offered at the beginning of the book for identifying career paths you'd like to pursue. Though much of the content is targeted toward high school students, the book also gives an overview of various work environments, as well as candid advice for dealing with specific workplace challenges. 30 Careers Before 30 would make a nice gift for someone who will soon be heading to college, joining the workforce, or leaving yet another unsatisfying job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great concise careers advice, January 17, 2009
This review is from: 30 Careers Before 30 - Finding Your Dream Job Faster than I Did (Paperback)
While I do not consider myself an expert in many things, one thing I feel a bit knowledgeable about is the genre of business-related books. I haven't read all 540,495,317 books in this field, nor do I plan to do so, because most are written by authors who think that because a company made billions of dollars by having its employees wear Hawaiian shirts on Fridays, the CEO of said company is a genius.

Daniel Lakstins is not one of those authors. In fact, his book "30 Careers Before 30: Finding Your Dream Job Faster Than I Did" is quite the opposite. Lakstins gives actual information that will help real people find worthwhile jobs by choosing appropriate career paths. The information in his book is not necessarily unique, but the presentation is. He gives clear examples of how an individual should determine his or her ultimate goal in employment.

Do you switch jobs every other day, looking for your perfect fit? Do you have problems at your current job, but you're not sure how to get out? Do you eventually want to start your own business, but are unsure where to start? Lakstins has answers to all of these questions, but he doesn't bore the reader with drawn-out explanations. His real-life examples are concise, and his advice in nearly every situation is spot on.

If you are easily bored with self-help career/business books, but you are still looking for answers regarding a career path, this might be one to check out. It's a fast read, primarily because there's not a lot of fluff. My only suggestion about "30 Careers" would be including some research from other business-related material. Then again, if the other material is ridiculously watered down, maybe leaving it out is the best recipe for success.

This review is from: 30 Careers Before 30 - Finding Your Dream Job Faster than I Did (Paperback)
This is a great workbook for anyone who is trying to decide on their career. I love the `notes' pages where you can write quick thoughts and ideas!!! This book is also a good manual for anyone who already has a job. It outlines the areas where you can improve your own performance and see if you are in the right career path. The book is very easy to read and is very motivational.
